BHS Application Process1. YOU complete and submit your application at
least 10 school days prior to the COLLEGE deadline. *pay attention to registrar deadlines*
2. You will need to hand in a Blue Transcript Request form (“Blue Sheet”) for EVERY college/scholarship you apply to. Attach a copy of application submission confirmation or
present email confirmation to registrars Make sure you choose the correct Admissions Plan & write
in the right deadline dates! Accurately reflect HOW you applied (Common App or
other) List any/all teacher letters to be submitted- MAKE SURE THIS
IS ACCURATE
BHS Application ProcessOnce a Blue Sheet is handed in, the Registrar/Counseling Office submits the following directly to college via Naviance or snail mail within 10 school days:
1. Transcript2. Common App/NACAC Forms (School Report, Counselor
Eval)3. Counselor Letter of Rec4. Teacher(s) Letter(s) of Rec5. Test Scores (if requested- ALL or NOTHING)*If a school requires OFFICIAL test scores you will need to request these through College Board or ACT
Common App and Naviance Today we will be creating your common app
account and linking it to your Naviance account.
Registrars/Counselors will be using Naviance to submit your transcripts, letters of rec, test scores, etc. to colleges.

BHS Teacher Letters of Rec You will request BHS teacher recommendations through
NAVIANCE. Select the teacher from the drop down menu and select “ALL
CURRENT AND FUTURE COLLEGES I ADD TO MY COLLEGES I’M APPLYING TO LIST”
When you hand in the Blue Sheet, you will indicate which teacher(s) you would like to send a letter to that specific college ONLY.
**Make sure you check each college website or Common App carefully to see how many letters of recommendation are required and/or allowed!
REGISTRARS WILL SUBMIT THE TEACHER LETTERS YOU LIST ON THE BLUE SHEET.
Letters from people OTHER than BHS
They will need to MAIL their letter to the college OR you can add them to “Other Recommender” in Common App (if the college allows other recommendations)
Make sure your college deadlines are correct in Naviance! Make sure you are accurately reflecting
HOW you are applying (ED, EA, Regular) on your Blue Sheet AND when requesting a letter of rec through Naviance (leave in NOTES section)
Important for teachers to know accurate deadlines so they can get them uploaded in time.

FEE WAIVERS If you qualify for a fee waiver to pay for your
applications, MAKE SURE TO INDICATE THIS ON YOUR COMMON APPLICATION in your PROFILE- this will initiate the process in Naviance
Regardless of how you apply, please indicate if you are using a fee waiver on the Blue Sheet

College Application Prep Procedures
1. Create a Common Application Account a. Go to www.commonapp.org b. Click on green box in upper right corner- APPLY NOW c. Fill in all required fields to register d. Create your user name & password (password must have at least 1 capital, 1 number and 1
symbol) e. You will be asked some questions regarding college communication and to verify that your age f. Complete the FERPA Waiver:
i. Add at least 1 colleges to your “My Colleges” list ii. Choose the “Common App” tab, and choose the Education portion on the left.
1. You must complete the ENTIRE Education portion of the Common Application before you can sign the FERPA- SEE INFO ON 2nd PAGE TO HELP YOU COMPLETE
iii. Once completed, go back to the “My Colleges” tab iv. Choose one of your colleges v. Choose “Recommenders & FERPA” on the left
vi. Click on the link to “release authorization” under the FERPA Release Authorization paragraph- READ THIS FIRST PAGE CAREFULLY!!
vii. Check the box “I have fully ready and understand…” and continue viii. Check the box “I authorize every school…” ix. Choose to waive or not to waive your rights. WE RECOMMEND YOU WAIVE YOUR
RIGHTS x. Check the box “I understand that my waiver…”
xi. Sign and Save 2. Log in to Naviance Family connection at: http://connection.naviance.com/brightonhs
a. Log in using CLEVER or your username (FirstLAST2019) and password (Student ID #) b. Choose “about me”, then “my account”
c. make sure your last name, date of birth and email is the same as what you entered in Common App AND your correct counselor is listed or it will not link properly
d. Choose the “Colleges” tab e. Click on “Colleges I’m applying to”
f. Enter your Common App email and verify the date of birth is correct. Choose “match accounts” 3. Add Colleges to your Colleges I’m thinking about list
*IF at any time you decide NOT to apply to a specific college, be sure to have the registrars REMOVE it from your Naviance and Common Application lists.
Requesting BHS Teacher Letters of Recommendation
1. Request new and keep track of letter of recommendation requests from Colleges Tab --> Apply to College --> Letters of Recommendation.
2. When adding a request, select a teacher to write the recommendation from the drop down menu. 3. Select “All current and future colleges I add to my Colleges I'm Applying to list”, and any notes to
share with your teacher. When finished, choose “Submit Request”

THE RECOMMENDATION PROCESS
• Gather the materials you’ll need (such as your transcript and list of activities)
• Make sure you enter your high school information correctly
• See your counselor if you need help answering questions
• Answer all required questions (marked with a red asterisk)
• Preview each section of the application as you go along
• Understand each college’s requirements (such as testing policy and writing requirements)
• Select a start term and admission plan in order to set deadlines
• Keep track of deadlines
• Complete the FERPA Release Authorization• Double check each college’s recommendation
requirements• Ask your counselor how your school submits
recommendation forms• Talk with your recommenders before inviting and
assigning them• Make sure you enter the correct names and email
addresses for your recommenders• Communicate with your recommenders regularly

WHERE DO I FIND COLLEGE APPLICATION FEES?
An application fee is the fee that a college charges you for applying to their institution.

DO ALL COLLEGES CHARGE AN APPLICATION FEE?
You can find colleges with no application fees two ways:• Use the Application Fee search criteria on the College Search tab to look for
schools with no fees• Click on the ‘Application Requirements’ box on the College Search tab to
access the full list of Common App schools and their fees
WHERE CAN I FIND COLLEGES WITH NO APPLICATION FEE?
Our member colleges want to make sure that application fees do not pose a barrier for any student who wishes to apply for admission. In the Profile section of the Common App, you will find the Common App Fee Waiver request. Some colleges may also offer their own application fee waivers that are not tied to financial circumstances.
