PRELUDE Adagio Rolf LovlandNathan Pace, Violin

WELCOME AND CONCERNS OF THE CONGREGATION

CALL TO WORSHIP Adapted from Psalm 146One: Happy are those whose hope is in God,

maker of heaven and earth--Many: for God keeps faith forever! One: God executes justice for the oppressed

and gives food for the hungry. Many: God sets the prisoners free

and opens the eyes of the blind. One: God lifts up those who are bowed down. Many: God watches over the strangers

and upholds the orphan and the widow. One: People of God, sing praise to the One who is your help—Many: for God keeps faith forever! Let us worship God!

OPENING HYMN 321 The Church’s One Foundation Aurelia

1. The church’s one foundationin Jesus Christ her Lord. She is his new creationby water and the word. From heaven he came and sought herto be his holy bride. With his own blood he bought her,and for her life he died.

2. Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth, her charter of salvation:one Lord, one faith, one birth. One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with every grace endured.

3. Though with a scornful wonderthis world sees her oppressed,by schisms rent asunder,by heresies distressed, yet saints their watch are keeping;their cry goes up: “How long?”And soon the nigh of weepingshall be the morn of song.

4. Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war,she waits the consummationof peace forevermore:till with the vision gloriousher longing eyes are blest, and the great church victoriousshall be the church at rest.

5. Yet she on earth has unionwith God, the Three in One,and mystic sweet communionwith those whose rest in won:O happy ones and holy!Lord give us grace that we,like them, the meek and lowly, may live eternally.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (All)

Gracious God, we were once strangers in a strange land, enslaved and broken, but youheard our cries and saved us. Yet we turn away from you and treat you as a stranger, forgetting that all that we are and have is because of your grace. You unite us in Christ, who is our cornerstone, but we often pave other paths away from you and each other.Forgive us for the dividing walls of hostility we build and welcome us back into yourhousehold. Transform our walls of hostility into the banquet house of your joy where allknow you and each other. Turn our hearts to Christ, your holy temple and our dwellingplace together. (silent confession)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

MUSICAL RESPONSE 248 Christ is Risen! Shout Hosanna!Christ is risen! Get you gone!”God the First and Last is with us. Sing Hosanna, everyone!

PASSING OF THE PEACESince God has forgiven us, we are free to forgive one another. You are invited to reach out toyour church family through phone calls, texts, faxes, carrier pigeons, or social media and greeteach other with a virtual sign of Christ’s peace.

ANTHEM Abide With Me Arr. Malcolm ArcherRyan Ford, Cynthia Smith, Frederick Wagoner, Carrie Wright

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide, The darkness deepens, Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail andcomforts flee, help of the helpless, oh, abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day, earth's joys grow dim, its

glories pass away, change and decay in all around I see, o Thou who changest not, abide with me. Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes, shine through and point me to the skies.

Heaven's morning breaks and vain shadows flee; O lord abide with me.

SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON Ephesians 2:11-22

SERMON No Longer Strangers Rev. Meredith Loftis

2. Let us build a house where prophetsspeak, and words are strong and true, where all God’s children dare to seekto dream God’s reign anew. Here the cross shall stand as witnessand a symbol of God’s grace; here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:

REFRAIN

3. Let us build a house where love is foundin water, wine, and wheat;a banquet hall on holy groundwhere peace and justice meet. Here the love of God, through Jesus,is revealed in time and space; as weshare in Christ the feast that frees us:

REFRAIN

4. Let us build a house where handswill reach beyond the wood and stoneto heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known. Here the outcast and the strangerbear the image of God’s face;let us bring an end to fear and danger:

REFRAIN

REFRAIN

CLOSING HYMN 761 Called as Partners in Christ’s Service Beecher

1. Called as partners in Christ’s service, called to ministries of grace,we respond with deep commitmentfresh new lines of faith to trace.May we learn the art of sharing, side by side and friend with friend, equal partners in our caringto fulfill God’s chosen end.

2. Christ’s example, Christ’s inspiring,Christ’s clear call to work and worth, let us follow, never faltering, reconciling folk on earth.Men and women, richer, poorer, all God’s people, young and old, blending human skills togethergracious gifts from God unfold.

3. Thus new patterns for Christ’s mission,in small or global sense, help us bear each other’s burdens, breaking down each wall or fence.Words of comfort, words of vision, words of challenge, said with care, bring new power and strength for action, make us colleagues, free and fair.

4. So God grant us for tomorrow ways to order human life that surroundeach person’s sorrow with a calm that conquers strife. Make us partners in our living, our compassion to increase, messages of faith, thus givinghope and confidence and peace.
