Senate Minutes for Friday, September 13, 2013

I. Call to Order Meeting called to order by Sen. Pres. Self at 2:36 p.m. A. Pledge of Allegiance B. Roll Call Absent: Chair Singletary, Sen. Arias, Chair McBurney, Sen. Crawford, Sen. Denny, Sen. Bryant, Sen. Trull, Sen. Agenord, Sen. Childress, Sen. Carter.

II. Adoption of agenda No debate and no opposition. Agenda approved

III. Approval of minutes November 6, 2013 Minutes approved.

IV. Guest Speakers Nathan Ford- Career Services He gave an update on things going in the Career Services department and explained the focus this year to be on student communication skills. The department already has over 60 companies who registered for campus involvement. Karli Sherman- Homecoming/CAB She discussed the different opportunities to getting involved with Campus Activities Board and Homecoming, which is less than a month away. Homecoming court applications are due on Wednesday, September 18th.

V. Appointments Motion to have a block swearing in by Chair Ibrahim, second by Sen. Goldsberry No debate, no opposition, motion passes 15-0-0 Kelly Hill- Chief Justice Vote: 15-0-0 Tyler Placeres- Associate Justice Vote: 15-0-0 Alexis Covington- Assistant to the Vice President Vote: 15-0-0 Stephen Taylor- Rules and Statues Co-Chair Vote: 14-0-0 Appointments approved Positions: sworn in

VI. Legislative Addresses

Senate President Self: Senator Applications are due today by 5:00pm. September 27th is SGA’s Leadership Development Day with Career Services. Please be sure to dress professionally and bring your resume. October 2nd is SGA Day including Write it Out Wednesday, Blue/Green Day and Hands to Paw kick –off event. This event is mandatory for senators to attend for a minimum of 15 minutes. Rules and Statutes Committee, Chair Ibrahim: Please be sure to leave your binders when you leave senate. Also be on the lookout for new legislation coming from the committee soon. University Outreach Committee: No Report Student Outreach Committee, Senator McCaffery: The committee reviewed the current Tailgate and Admissions surveys. Hand to Paw kick off meeting is October 2nd. Budget and Allocations Committee, Chair Thrasher: This committee reviewed 4 funding requests: 1) $367.60 Jonathan Noviteky 2) $500 Matthew Nalley 3) $360 Kia Ritenour 4) Tabled till later in the month with more information.

VII. Executive Addresses President Hill: Welcomed the new members of Student Government and provided an update on Florida State Association (FSA). Vice President Wood: Reviewed the meeting that the Executive Board had with Dean Dugan earlier today in regards to the Academic Affairs restructure. Freshman Committee interviews began tomorrow. Chief of Staff Sosa: He explained the importance of the legislative branch and the importance of their student voice.

VIII. Administrative Addresses Vice President of Student Affairs-Dr. Kevin Bailey: What do you want to be known for? The 45th Senate contributed to the classroom Academic Honor code in every classroom. They were also known for the reorganization of

Senators elected by colleges. The 44th Senate is known for 3 elections for the Student Body President and Vice President. He then challenged the Senate to identify their legacy.
