Develop study skills and practice good study habits. Organize a weekly study schedule and stick to it. Keep grades up for scholarship opportunities and college

admission. Get involved in one extracurricular activity that genuinely

interests you. Begin college and career exploration. Prepare and register for the PSAT as a practice SAT. Review packet

AP vs IB

AP Courses: are offered in a wide range of subjects and students may take those that appeal to them (Potential College Credit)

IB Courses: are offered in a wide range of subjects. Students pursuing the IB Diploma must take IB courses from six subject areas, including a Theory of Knowledge course (Potential College Credit)

Registration

Algebra I Honors (if taken Alg I Standard or Pre-Alg or lower in MS). Geometry Honors (if passed Alg I Honors) Algebra II Honors (if passed Alg I Honors & Geom. Honors). Algebra II Hon COMPETITION (teacher recommendation only). IB Pre-Calculus (if passed Alg I Honors, Geom. Honors, and Algebra

II Honors).

** If you have a semester grade of C or lower in a high school credit course in 8th grade, it is strongly suggested that you retake the course.

** For students going into Algebra I Honors, you can take it online over the summer OR take Algebra I Honors and Geometry in the 9th if you can handle the course load (OPTIONAL)

Pre-IB World History or AP Human Geography (Optional)

Science

Pre-IB Biology AP Biology Pre-IB Chemistry Students in 8th grade Biology I Honors who are earning

an A or B AND taken Algebra I Honors and Geometry Honors who are earning an A or B may take AP Biology

** If you have a semester grade of C or lower in a high school credit course in 8th grade, it is strongly suggested that you retake the course.

Grade 9 Course SelectionsWorld Language

IB states that you acquire a language you do not already know. Sanford, Millennium, Milwee, and South Seminole Middle School Pre-IB

students who are in Spanish I and earn a C or higher may move to Pre-IB Spanish II.

Sanford, Millennium, Milwee, and South Seminole Middle School Pre-IB students who are in French I and earn a C or higher may move to Pre-IB French II.

SCPS policy is that all other students may enroll in Spanish I Pre-IB or French I Pre-IB.

Students are prepared to take the IB Spanish or French examination upon completion of Spanish or French IV. (11th or 12th grade year)

** 8th graders: Spanish 1/French 1 FLVS Foreign Language is NOTa Pre-IB Course!

Exemptions

IB students are not required to take:– PE– Personal Fitness– Health/Life Management– HOPE– Online Course– American Government – Economics

If you leave IB at any time, you will be required to take these courses to meet traditional graduation requirements.

Enter the course number (the first three will get you started), select courses, then clock ADD COURSE, repeat step for each course

Be sure your CREDITS total 7.0

Band Chorus Dazzlers Newspaper/Yearbook (application) Summer Reading Students that are currently in Spanish 1 should

access the bridge course this summer (May 31 – June 13)

Auditions/Summer Follow Up

Transportation

Buses are provided for all students who live 2 miles or more from school.

Afternoon activity buses are available.

Summer School

Summer School will have NO classes for advancement.

A Pre-DP Inquiry Skills class will be available. This class gives students a chance to meet teachers in the program, get acquainted with the campus, and learn study/self-management skills that will serve them well in our program. The dates normally correspond with the first two weeks of summer school (May 31 – June 13).

Complete your summer reading! Assignments will be posted on the IB tab of the SHS website by May.

Private/Homeschool students will complete a paper registration form beginning next week. Call Mrs. Cole in the IB office at 407/320-5295 for details.
