Your support of Selwyn over the last 12 months has been wonderful. On the following pages you can read about just some of the ways that your donations have had an impact in 2012-2013. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and is making a real difference; thank you.

£17,657.80has been received in Matched Giving through your companies and workplaces matching, and in some cases even tripling, your donations to the College. Matched Giving is a fantastic way of increasing the value of your donation to Selwyn.

1Master, Professor Richard Bowring, was honoured to be admitted to the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.

19%of Selwyn alumni gave to the College this year. Thank you!

73 schools and colleges have been visited by our Schools Liaison Officer this year. These visits aim to widen pupils’ perspectives and ambitions, to demystify Cambridge and the application process and to give an insight into what it is really like to study somewhere like Selwyn.

54rooms have been fully refurbished so far as part of the much needed refurbishment of Cripps Court. The building works are due to be completed in 2014.

2 Selwyn men, Chris Hutton (SE 2010) and Ben Tsuda (SE 2012), played on the winning varsity football team this year, with a 3-2 victory over Oxford.

£16,612.58was received (on average) every month this year in standing orders and direct debits from Selwyn alumni. Lots of people giving small amounts on a regular basis makes a BIG difference. Thank you!

114 students received bursaries.

“I am very grateful for the bursary that I receive. It is nice to know that someone is generously helping to fund my studies while at this University. It takes away a great deal of stress and worry about money issues … it really is an extremely special gift to give to someone, and it is appreciated very much.”

168 mince pies, along with mulled wine, were served to alumni and friends at our annual Christmas Carol Service in London.

42 students received travel bursaries this year, visiting 25 countries between them. Trips ranged from volunteer teaching in India to mapping geology in the USA, from medical internships in a Nepalese leprosy hospital to vet work in a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa. These once-in-a-lifetime opportunities would not be possible without the travel bursaries.

£130,000has been generated for the College through Gift Aid in the last 12 months. Fantastic! If you pay basic or higher rate tax, you can give tax-efficiently by signing a Gift Aid declaration and the College can claim an additional 25% of income from HMRC on top of your donation.

In 2012 our Telephone Campaign focussed on fundraising for the Supervision System. The funds raised were equivalent to the cost of over

3,000supervisions. Your support has helped us to secure and sustain this cornerstone of a Cambridge education, which provides the highest quality teaching possible.

3 Selwyn organists were awarded Fellowship of the Royal College

of Organists – an extraordinary achievement! Congratulations Oliver

Hancock (SE 2010), Tim Parsons (SE 2011) and Ian Tindale (SE 2008).

£6,000in sports bursaries was distributed to students to help cover the key costs of essential kit, club subscriptions and training camps. This year we gave out bursaries to sportsmen and women participating in everything from football to fencing, from gymnastics to rifle shooting, from dancesport to ultimate frisbee. Thanks to your support, we were able to give out £1,000 more than last year.

£3,500a year is currently being raised by our new Friends of the Choir membership scheme. The scheme has had great support so far and is already generating vital funds for the Choir.

33 school groups have, this year, visited Selwyn College for the day to find out what it would be like to study here. Accompanied by our Schools Liaison Officer, pupils have the chance to ask questions, meet Tutors and learn more about studying at Cambridge. School visits are a key part of our widening participation and access work. 24 more alumni notified

us this year of their intention to remember the College in their Will, thus becoming members of The 1882 Society. This special way of giving will support future generations of Selwyn students immensely.
