Planning

During the planning stage of our advanced portfolio we used media technology to successfully carry out our work. We completed a large majority of work on either the PC or Mac. We used the respective computer to access word-processing software such as Microsoft Word, to create documents such as the treatment & contingency plan etc.Microsoft PowerPoint was also used during the planning in order to create our pitch, which would later be displayed externally through a digital projector.The pitch would be subsequently filmed using a Canon Legria. The footage would then be uploaded to the Macs by using inserting the camera’s SD card into a multiple card reader.Another new media technology used in the planning stage of our work was Celtex, this software was used to create our script. Storyboards were also required, therefore we completed this task by using a pencil, ruler and paper, a scanner was used to place the storyboard on the MacW

Research

While performing various tasks for our research we made use of new media technologies to complete our work. Web 2.0 was used heavily during research in order to gain access to sites such as IMDB, BBFC etc. From where we gained information in relation to our product.Once all the information was gathered, we would create either a Word document (questionnaire, graphs, Key Changes, certification) or PowerPoint (Textual Analysis etc.) to exhibit our work on either a PC or Mac. We used a printer to print out the questionnaires, which would later be filled by our sample group.

Production

During the stage of production we came across a wide range of new media technologies.Our production was captured using the Canon 600d, which gave clear & crisp full HD footage. External Spot lights were deployed when filming the performance scenes.While capturing footage for the performance scenes we also used a dolly to perform to perform tracking shots & pan shots.Another set of equipment used during the filming of the performance based scene was the crane, as this gave us the ability to film shots from a high angle.When filming the narrative based scenes we made use of the dolly and steady cam, in order to perform close ups and various camera movements. We also used a tripod to film still shots.

Post – Production

During the post – production stage we required to complete all work on the Macs.Similarly to the pitch, we transferred all our footage from the camera via SD card, onto the Mac in order to begin the editing process.The Macs were used as they contained vital editing software, such as: Final Cut (for cutting trimming of footage, as well as transitions), Adobe After Effects ( to add/create professional effects), iMovie (to import footage) and LiveType ( to create professional titles).

Evaluation

While completing my self-evaluation, I was once again needed to exploit media technologies. All of my evaluation work was complete on a Mac, where I had full access to Microsoft office software.Some questions in my evaluation required editing and pictures alongside a voiceover, this required the use of final cut.I recorded my voice using a recording microphone.
