    THE POWER OF NEW 009

At Design Hotels we stand out, year after year, by introducing new hotels that each possesses a wholly unique look and philosophy. These properties join a stable of hotels that provides guests with experiences that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. Our hoteliers (whom we like to call Originals) dream them into existence thanks to a passion for craftsmanship and quality that one would normally expect to find from, say, an artisan. Indeed, we think that word artisan perfectly captures that drive for perfection that our Originals exhibit. Consider this definition:

Artisans practice a craft and, through experience and aptitude, can reach the expressive levels of an artist.

What better way to describe folks like Piet Boon, Marcello Murzilli, Jean-Pierre Marois, and Valry Grgo, who are just a select few of the new Originals joining Design Hotels this year. Designer, architect, and now hotelier, Piet Boon is a multidisciplinary genius whose eponymous property in the former Dutch Antilles, Piet Boon Bonaire, is a collection of individually designed beachfront villas that perfectly reflect his inimi-table sophisticated style. Murzilli is a legendary Italian businessman whose life experiences taught him that what people truly need today is a simpler, old-world way of being; thus Eremito, a hotel built in the spirit of a monastery in the Umbrian countryside between Florence and Rome. Marois, meanwhile, literally transformed a variety of rich histories into one bold new future. His spectacular Les Bains hotel is housed in a build-ing that hosted the elite of the Belle poque, served as a bathhouse for Marcel Proust, and, as the famed Les Bains Douches, was among the worlds most infamous nightclubs. And then theres Grgo, the driving force behind three hotels in the French AlpsLe Fitz Roy, Le Val Thorens, and Htel des Trois Vallesthat have recently been brought into the present with their unique histories intact.
