engaged in design, applications development, product

Recruited from top universities, they enter our engineering

application areas from drive requirements for electric

passenger vehicles to marine jack-up systems.

We begin with gears. To develop systems that transfer

power under demanding conditions, you need the

capability and experience to produce world-class gears.

ODS has been manufacturing gears of all types and sizes

for more than 90 years – spur, helical, bevel, Zerol® and

Hypoid. We produce gears from 12 mm diameters used in

high performance automotive transmissions to two meter

diameter gears which harness the power of wind turbines.

Our North American facility (Lafayette, Indiana) is one of

the largest integrated gear manufacturing operations in the

world, encompassing 14 acres of advanced machine tools

within a single structure. Our manufacturing centers in

Europe, India and China provide the global reach to

support production where our clients need us. And in each

location, we are investing millions to put in place new

capabilities to support our customers’ growth plans.

Flexible. Responsive.Precise. Local.

Machining Processes

Each manufacturing center is ISO certified and utilizes

Statistical Process Controls (SPC) to produce world-class

gears and drives to the highest AGMA, DIN and SAE

specifications. A variety of processes are used to achieve

the best results – grinding, gashing, hobbing, shaping,

shaving, broaching, milling or rolling. If required, we can

make gear modifications down to 2/100 the diameter of a

human hair. We have the machining capability to fulfill all

our customers’ requirements for gears, shafts, splines,

carriers and housings.

Heat Treating

Our regional manufacturing centers have internal

capabilities for processes including tempering, carburizing,

nitriding, press quenching, induction hardening, thermal

deburring, shot peening and crack detection. Internal

capabilities in these areas ensure that features critical to

performance are achieved under our direct control. The

result: quiet running gears with exceptional wear properties

and superior gear loading attributes.

Assembly & Fabrication

We build to customer demand – limited edition

transmissions for high performance supercars, hundreds

of industrial cooling tower fan drives, thousands of

electric golf cart transaxles and hundreds of thousands

of synchronizers for agricultural tractors – every year. Plus

axles, powershift units, swing drives, wheel drives, custom

gearboxes … and more!

Testing

We have one of the largest installed bases of

CMM gear checking equipment in the industry.

Each manufacturing center has a fully

equipped laboratory. We check the gears and

dynamically test our assemblies to ensure

performance requirements are met. Performance

and reliability are engineered into every product

we manufacture.



Manufacturers specify our products for their engineering,

reliability, durability and outstanding performance in the

OEM markets we serve – construction, agriculture,

specialty industrial, mining and energy, on and off-highway

and rail. We have the capability to design complete

driveline solutions – axles, transmissions, planetary drives,

gears and components – for mechanically, hydraulically or

Gears & Shafts

ODS is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of customspur, helical, straight and spiral bevel gears and shafts, as

well as ring gears for final reduction components. We also

have a worldwide reputation for crown wheels and pinions

engineered for technically challenging applications.

Shifting Solutions –

Synchronizers & Powershift Clutches

We produce more than one million synchronizers a year.

Most agricultural tractors built today use our technology to

help achieve greater fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

We test and develop complete powershift units for

customer specific applications, using the latest

manufacturing technologies, such as electron beam

and laser welding, flow forming and grob rolling.



Transmissions

Supercar manufacturers – Aston Martin, Audi, Lamborghini,

Maserati, McLaren – rely on our experience to design

transmissions which harness the power of their

extraordinary machines. Our multi-speed electric drivelines

allow electric vehicle manufacturers to offer vehicles with

better efficiency and increased range. Our CVT

transmissions enable agricultural tractor manufacturers

to boost performance and improve fuel economy.

Planetary DrivesOur Torque-Hub® range of planetary drives is one of the

most recognized brands in the industry, delivering torque

output for propulsion, rotational or lifting applications.

Axles & Transaxles

Our solutions for heavy-duty rigid and steerable axles are

offered with a variety of brake options – caliper, drum

and wet disk. These are used in a broad range

of applications – wheel loaders, graders,

articulated haul trucks, agricultural tractors,

low-floor city buses, fork lifts and airport

ground support equipment.

ODS supports global energy production by providing

engineered solutions that enable energy creation and

resource development. Our custom gears are used to

generate power in wind turbines and drive frac pumps and

transmissions during natural gas extraction. Our custom

assemblies drive cutter heads, tracks and gathering arms

in underground and surface mining operations. Offshore

energy producers rely on specialty drives from Oerlikon

Drive Systems to raise and lower lift boat and jack-up rigs

and to operate the marine cranes that support oil

We have broad capabilities to produce custom gears,

shafts and components for the drive trains of vehicles

both machine and provide the heat treatment for large

components. This is a key reason why we have supply
