The owner and founder of the Indigenous Careers and Employment website, Kylie Kinsela, said that in some states about 70 per cent of indigenous Australians with a job worked within government. ‘‘We want to show them the options available in the private sector,’’ Ms Kinsela said. She said the website would be aimed at young indigenous Australians, who make up about 60 per cent of the Aboriginal population. ‘‘They are beginning to use the internet more and more and using it to gain employment,’’ she said. The website is designed to connect indigenous candidates with employers. It specialises in the recruitment of indigenous Australians, as well as non-indigenous people with indigenous expertise or those who want to move into this sector. Potential candidates can visit the website, select a job and submit their application. They can also register for job alerts. The service will also help companies that want to develop diversity programs.
