Draw Me to Yourself

In this moment

draw me to yourself, Lord,

and make me aware

not so much of what I’ve given

as of all I have received

and so have yet to share.

Send me forth

in power and gladness

and with great courage

to live out in the world

what I pray and profess,

that, in sharing,

I may do justice,

make peace,

grow in love,

enjoy myself,

other people,

and your world now,

and you forever.

Reflection

There are those who run from danger andthose who run towards danger. No doubt, today’s heroes belong to the latter group.Paramedics, firefighters, and policeofficers frequently have to make splitsecond decisions in order to save lives. When they do, they know very well thattheir own lives are at risk. Sadly, manyfirst responders have died from exposureto COVID-19. However, that did not stopothers from traveling across the country toserve at the epicenter in New York.

We are recognizing another group today:disaster recovery services. One of theirtasks is to decontaminate spaces that havebeen soiled by an infectious disease or, inthe case of COVID-19, a virus. These menand women risk their lives every time theyknowingly expose themselves to thedeadly virus. All of these workers are ourheroes for today and we shout out a hugeTHANK YOU!

For Today

Are there people who have directly riskedtheir lives for me?

How much of myself am I willing tosacrifice for others?

Do I dare to enter "the cave that I fear"?

My Prayer Today

Loving God, we give thanks for all the firstresponders and disaster recovery personnelacross the world. Give them the courage toface dangerous situations so that they are

able to continue their mission of saving lives.Bless them and their families and keep them

safe. Amen.
