“PROJECT GREEN”
TEAM : SEEDS
Source: World bank report ,2012.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
India, which is an agricultural country where 43% of land is mainly used for agriculture and nearly 75% of people’s livelihood soulfully depends on agriculture . But ,the most hurting fact is that there is a mass decrease in our agricultural productivity . A statistical report says that agricultural growth in the 1990s reduced rural poverty to 26.3 percent by 1999/2000. Since then, however, the slowdown in agricultural growth has become a major cause for concern. As a result , there is a rapid increase in the cost of our agricultural products.

• Size of handling
• Urbanization

• Monsoon failure
Lack of proper water management
• Lack of reservoir
• Floods
Lack of
awareness
• Illiteracy
Lack of interest
No secured income
OTHER CAUSES
No crop insurance
Lack of human

Less subsidy seeds
REASON FOR SELECTING A SPECIFIC CAUSE
• REDUCTION IN FARMING LAND is the major reason for decline in agricultural productivity.
Net Area Sown (Data from 14.1: Agricultural Land by Use in India)Source : Provided by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, the Ministry of
Agriculture, Government of IndiaThe above analysis shows that when compared to 2000-01, every year the
agricultural land use has been reduced, with the exception of a slight increase in 2005-06 when 141.49 million hectares (349.62 million acres) were sown. Furthermore, when an average of index-row is computed and converted it into an equivalent of base year 2000-01, the results are 139.85. This means that the net area sown has been reduced from 141.36 to 139.85 millions of hectares in eight years or 188,750 hectares (466,400 acres) every year!!!

PROPOSED SOLUTION
• It has been clearly understood from the above statistics that the reduction in production is mainly due to lack of farming lands and farming.
• In order to overcome these factors, we are emerging with a new concept called “PROJECT GREEN”.
MERITS
Objective (organic farming)
To use the unused cultivable lands
To convert the barren lands into agricultural lands.
GREEN REVOLUTION
Degradation of land
Weeds and pests
infestation
Loss of Bio Diversity
Chemicals in water affects land and human’s health.
PROJECT GREEN
Maintaining soil fertility by organic
farming
Reducing malnutrition and unemployment
Enhancing the livelihood of
farmers
IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROPOSED SOLUTION
Selecting a village or an
area
Checking of availability of land & land
fertility
Availability of resources
(Water , Power& Human)
Establishing a research institute
Selecting the suitable crop(s)
Organizing a
farming team
Providing proper training for improving
farming methods
Following organic farming
Key steps involved in “ ”
Practicing better scientific
methods
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
DETAILED DESCRIPTIONSelection of village :
The area should be analyzed for available lands.
The lands should be classified on the basis of
Cultivable lands,
Grass lands,
Social forestry and
Barren lands.
Availability of resources :
The area should be checked for proper availability of water , power
( electricity & petrol n diesel ) and human resources .
Human resources :
Checking the total population of the selected area with proper working age group.
CHECKING THE FERTILITY:Proper soil tests are to be done , in order to find the fertility of the land.
ESTABLISHING A RESEARCH INSTITUTE :Selection of suitable crop(s) :
Using the soil fertility results , the suitable crop(s) which gives a maximum yield should be selected.
since , a continuous farming of a similar crop is practiced , there will be a reduction in similar kind of nutrients in the land. So crop rotation method is also implemented .
Organizing a farming team:
The team should be consisted of members having either proper experience or proper educational qualification in agriculture , horticulture and related field of studies at least at diploma level of studies.
Preferences should be given to degree holders.
QUANTUM OF UNSKILLED LABORS
AVAILABILITY OF SKILLED LABORS
MALE & FEMALE
CLASSIFICATION OF HUMAN RESOURCES
Proper training should be given to the farmers in the field of organic
Farming.
Proper knowledge should be acquired from relevant fields or departments , resource persons and pioneers.
Periodic inspection should be done at regular intervals and also whenever it is required.
Steady increase in the economic growth of the country
Increased scope for the agricultural and related field of studies
A stable working environment is created
Improved technological methods of farming can be taught to the indigenous farmers
CHALLENGES FACED :
Conversion of barren lands to cultivable lands.
Creating awareness
among people about PROJECT
GREEN.
Requires lot of human
resources
Proper financial support.
Conversion of barren lands to cultivable lands:
Using soil fertility results, simple cropping is done at first, to change the nature of land and its fertility. And then it is converted into cultivable land.Financial support:
Government should support in all possible ways.
Government should support the scheme by the use of national banks E.g.: NABARD.
Using NGO helps for the proper implementation and governing.
