Engg. Drawing Sectional ViewTRANSCRIPT
Sectional Views
There are many times that a parts feature is not visible and is
represented with hidden lines in all primary views. There is another view
that an engineer can use to show the hidden feature. A sectional view is
what can be drawn to show the internal feature. What a sectional view does
is it “cut” the part, opening up to show the inner feature. The cut does not
have to be along the center or in a straight line.
Cutting Plane
The cutting plane is a technique that is used to see the interior of a
part. The cutting plane is represented on one of the multiviews as a line with
arrows showing the direction of view.
Where the cutting plane contact material that area is hatched on the
orthographic view. Note that the sectional views are located behind the
cutting plane (behind the arrows) not in front of the plane. Now practice on
the next page.
Pro-E
Once the model is complete and you are creating the drawings you
can have pro-e create a sectional view if needed. The key to a sectional
view is to create a datum plane that will be used to used as the cutting plane.
On my website ( www.swccd.edu/~lzinola). I have posted tutorials to help
with learning Pro/E. These tutorials are not a replacement for the class
lectures and demonstrations. They are to help you remember what steps
need to be taken and also allow you that follow along with the class
demonstration without having to take notes.
Here is a guide line that outlines the key step to create a sectional view and
create a sectional view in a drawing with pro/E.
