Discover the Fun of English

The Centre for English Learning has recently started a programme called ‘Fun with English’. The programme aims to teach children English through interesting activities. Edward Wood, a Canadian teacher and founder of the centre, believes we can learn English in interesting ways. He talks about this idea in the interview below.

New ways to learn EnglishInterviewer:Edward: We teach through activities which are both fun and educational. We

design special activities for each language item. For example, we teach spelling through doing puzzles. Students learn pronunciation through reading poems and singing. They can improve their writing skills by re-writing the lyrics of pop songs.

Interviewer:Edward: They like it very much! They enjoy the activities. Most importantly, they

can remember words and sentences better! They are now more confident in using English as well. ‘Fun with English’ offers different courses. Parents can choose suitable courses for their children. We have 10% discount for people joining our programme before 30th September.

Join before 30th Sept and enjoy a 10% discount on course fee!

Below is a diary entry by Jenny. Read it carefully and complete her e-mail with the information given.

Fill in each blank with only ONE word.

Dear Diary,

My English camp finished yesterday. I was exhausted but it was great fun! We did a lot of activities and we enjoyed them a lot!

There was heavy rain on the first day when we arrived at the camp in Sai Kung. We were worried that the activities might be cancelled. Luckily, there was plenty of sunshine after lunch!

There were different activities to help me learn English. The activity I liked most was Conversation Time. Every day after dinner, we paired up and talked in English. At first, everyone was shy and was not willing to speak. A few minutes later, we got to know each other better and talked happily.

I made a new friend at the camp! His name is Brandon and he comes from Australia. He is in Hong Kong on an exchange tour for three weeks. He was a student helper at the camp. He will go back to Australia on 20th August. I promised to show him around next week. I am planning to take him to The Peak, Ocean Park and Repulse Bay. These places are famous tourist spots and I am sure he will like them!
