There is often confusion between Climbing and Rambling roses although, generally speaking, both types can be used for much the same purpose. Climbers are better for walls and pergolas, Ramblers good for tree climbing and hiding eyesores etc. It must be remembered that all of them will take two or three years to become fully established. It should also be noted that some of the more vigorous ramblers and tree climbers could take up to three years to ower.

I think that old, once flowering roses should have a place in every garden.

One of my favourites is ‘Rambling Rector’ with its masses of buds just

waiting to burst open and then, as if snow had fallen they all open up, revealing a fantastic display of

white, semi-double, scented flowers, covering the plant and filling the

evening air with its gentle fragrance.Ian Limmer, Nursery Manager

The rose ‘Stamford’s Sanctuary’ was commissioned by the National Trust property

Dunham Massey in Cheshire, as part of the Trusts commemorations marking the

centenary of the First World War.

Between 1917 and 1919 Dunham Massey became the Stamford Military

Hospital, where 282 wounded ‘Tommies’ from the trenches were cared for.

‘Stamford’s Sanctuary’ was created as lasting legacy to its role as a refuge from the

horrors of war.
