It is through the control of the hazards that the frequency and severity of incidents are reduced, resulting in a parallel reduction in human injury and financial loss. A “hazard” is defined as: “any circumstance or condition which poses the risk of an incident”. A “hazard assessment” is defined as: “a thorough examination of an operation (job site, shop, etc...) for the purpose of identifying what actual and potential hazards exist.” There will be a hazard assessment done for every job that KERR Interior Systems Ltd. completes. Conditions on the job site should be monitored and the hazard assessment updated as required on an on- going basis. Assessment Procedures Every workplace consists of four major components: 1. The people (Ex. Clients, workers, sub-contractors, suppliers, visitors, etc...) 2. The environment they work in 3. The materials they work with 4. The equipment and tools being used Hazard Assessment does not just evaluate things and situations which are wrong at the present time but also looks at what could go wrong in the future. Job Hazard Analysis (Formal Hazard Assessment) KERR Interior Systems Ltd. will ensure that a Job Hazard Analysis be created for all types of work performed by KERR Interior employees. The Job Hazard Analysis will be created prior to the commencement of work in order to assess the task and identify existing or potential hazards associated with the task. These Job Hazard Analysis will identify the key hazards associated with each step of the task and the hazards will be prioritized according to severity and probability. Once the hazards have been identified, controls will be developed in order to eliminate the hazards or significantly reduce the severity of the hazard and reduce the probability of it occurring. Types of controls being used will include Engineering, Administrative, and Personal Protective Equipment. These Job Hazard Analysis will be organized in a Critical Task List from most dangerous to least dangerous tasks as performed by KERR Interior. Field Level Hazard Assessment An on-going hazard assessment process will also be used by KERR Interior Systems in the form of Pre- Job Safety Instruction, also known as “PSI”. Foremen will be required to complete a PSI at the work-site prior to the start of each task or when conditions change for the task. All workers on-site for the task will be required to review, understand, and sign-off on the foreman's PSI. Client Hazard Assessment KERR Interior Systems Ltd. and its employees are subject to the rules, regulations and requirements of KERR's clients and often KERR's clients have their own policies and procedures in regards to Hazard Assessment. KERR Interior and its employees will adhere to the policies and procedures for Hazard Assessment of its clients as long as the client's policies and procedures are in compliance with applicable legislation and KERR Interior Systems Ltd.
