Section 1: What it is And What You Need to GetThe Hauppauge HDPVR is a recording device mostly used for recording video games on other devices. After recording you can use the computer program it has to edit the video. The HDPVR already comes with a set of double ended component cables, a USB attachment cable and the power cable. The HDPVR does not come with an HDMI cable or an HDMI port. This can cause problems for people who want to record in a higher level definition than the original HDPVR records.

What you need: One HDMI in to component out converter see (In Figure 1-1). The HDMI converter converts an HDMI cable into an RGB cable, making the HDPVR able to record without having an HDMI input.

Two HDMI cables (See Figure 1-2). The HDMI cable is the cord that will be coming from your TV and your device to the splitter.

Another Double ended component cable (See Figure 1-3). The cable will be coming from your HDPVR to the converter.

One HDMI splitter, (See Figure 1-4). This will be making you able to have one cable go to your TV and the other going to your device.

One optical cable, (See Figure 1-5). This will record audio from your device

Section 2: The Full SetupSetting up the HDPVR with the parts listed above may be tricky so be sure to read directions carefully.

First you need to make sure you have all the parts and cables you need for the setup. Next you need to take the component cables and plug one side in according to color to the back of the HDPVR (See Figure 2-1).You can get these online at amazon/eBay

Next take the other side of the component cables and plug them in according to color into the converter (See Figure 2-2). You can find these on amazon/ebay or a local bestbuy or radioshack.

Now you will want to take your splitter and plug the single sided end into the converter. (See Figure 2-3). You can find one of these on amazon/eBay or your local RadioShack or BestBuy

Next you will need to take the two HDMI cables and plug them both into the open slots on the splitter (See Figure 2-4) then take one of the HDMI cables and plug it into your TV then take the other and plug it into your device.

Now you will need to plug your HDPVR in to your computer. The HDPVR already comes with a USB cable (See Figure 2-5), this will enable you to work on the recorded content from your computer. Take the USB side of the cable and plug it in to any USB port on your computer. Then plug the opposite side into the back of your HDPVR.

The last step in setup will be the power cord (See Figure 2-6). This will power your HDPVR. Take the rounded end of the power cable and plug it into the appropraite spot on the back of the HDPVR. Next take the other side of the cable and plug it into a power source.

Program Setup: Hauppauge CaptureAfter setting up your HDPVR to your TV, Computer, and device you are now ready to set up the program needed for your computer to record content on your pc.

Hauppauge Capture: Hauppauge capture is the program that comes with the HDPVR, there is other video recording software available but this is the one that comes free with the product. (See Figure 2-7).

To download this program you can go to www.hauppauge.com/capture (See Figure 2-8). When you get to the website scroll down and there will be a red download button, click that button and follow the online directions after that. You will also need to download the editing program called ArcSoft Showbiz that comes with your HDPVR. Follow the onscreen instructions to download. After the programs are downloaded you are ready to start recording and editing content.

Section 3: How to Use ItNow you will be learning how to record and edit content recorded on your HDPVR. To record your content displayed on your device you need to have your capture program set up and running.

You will need to open your capture program and make sure your content is displayed on your computer before clicking record. And also make sure your video input and output are set to the proper setting. (See Figure 3-1)

Now to record the content click the record button and the program will begin recording your content on your device. After you are finished recording you are now ready to edit and upload your content using the free editing program that comes with the HDPVR called ArcSoft Showbiz (See Figure 3-2). If you havent downloaded ArcSoft already there is a Download tutorial on the next page.

You can do three different things after recording and editing your content. You can create an AVCHD disk. You can create a file out of it. Or you can upload it to YouTube. (See Figure 3-3).

Program Setup: ArcSoft ShowbizArcSoft Showbiz is the editing software that comes with the HDPVR. You should have it downloaded already but if not here is a small tutorial on how to do it.

The HDPVR will come with a disk that will install the program for you. You may have to click a few things like run or save (it is recommended to save it) to allow it to start its installation. (See Figure 3-4).

After you download this you are now setup and ready to record and edit in HD with the HDPVR.
