Before deciding which schools to apply for, you should gather as much information about the schools as possible. For example read the descriptions in the booklet, get information from elsewhere, obtain the schools own information booklets, visit the schools on the open days/ evenings .

Make sure you are clear which schools require you to complete a supplementary form in addition to the form for your home borough and ensure that the supplementary form is returned to the school on time.

You can apply for up to six schools and these must be ordered by your preference.

Please do not include special or independent/private schools.

Choosing a school

• Your application allows you to apply for six schools in order of your preference. We advise parents to apply for as many schools as possible.

• You need to be realistic about the chances of your application being successful. You should remember that most schools receive more applications than they have places available so will not be able to make offers to everyone who applies. When deciding who should receive a place at an oversubscribed school the published admission criteria must be used*.

• None of the secondary schools in Camden have associated feeder primary schools, so please be aware that just because your child has been attending a particular primary school, it does not mean that s/he will automatically be given a place at a particular secondary school in the borough.

• If you live near the borough boundary you may have a chance of securing a place in a school in the neighbouring authority.

*To view the criteria applied at Camden Community schools see page 18 For voluntary aided schools please refer to the schools own pages within this booklet.

What is the Distance admissions criteria?

If more than 216 applications are received under this criterion, the school only considers the 216 applicants living closest to the school.
