I observed Chartiers Valley High School and National Cathedral Middle School for my art room observations.
I was very curious about National Cathedral school because this was my first time observing art classes in a private school
Chartiers Valley High School and Middle School
National Cathedral Middle
School
The demographics for these two schools were different, one was a public school and the other was a private school.
I was very interested in seeing how the art room was run in a private school.
Demographic chart for CVHS
Demographic chart for National Cathedral School
CVHS experience Both classrooms were almost the complete opposite of each other,
CVHS’s art room was much more messy but the main area where the students worked was relatively tidy, it was also inspiring to be around so much artwork
NCMS experience (7th grade) Mrs. Zwelling’s classroom was very organized
Student projects in CVHS classroom The quality of work in the high school art room was very impressive
Student projects in NCMS Mrs. Zwelling’s projects seemed more specific and she posted many
directions for them. These pictures are for a projects where they had to write “operating instructions for their “model”, which was a robot version of themselves.
Examples of student’s work for the “operating instructions” project
“Mandala” project at NCMS
More projects:
Van Gogh project Sewing pillow cases project
Both classrooms were different but both encouraged creativity and for students to work together to come up with ideas for their projects.
Above all, they both stressed the importance of skill and also using one’s imagination.
