COMMUNICATION and NEWS UPDATES: Please visit FREQUENTLY our SEAS website, Parish Bulletin, Flocknotes, My Parish APP, Church doors
My dear friends in Christ, As many of you know and have attended faithfully in the past, every year on this 2ND Sunday of Easter, better known as DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY, we gathered after Mass in the SEAS parish hall to receive the plenary indulgence that Pope Saint John Paul initiated in the decree dated August 3, 2002, through the Apostolic Penitentiary.
Sadly, this year due to the covid-19 we cannot gather after church to receive this great gift of the indulgence. But, Pope Francis has issued new guidelines so during this troubled time, a plenary indulgence can still be gained.
I certainly hope and pray that next year at this time, we can gather once again on this great feast of DIVINE MERCY, so supported by the life of Saint Faustina, to once again share the indulgence in person. In Christ’s love, Father Bob This is how an indulgence is defined in the Code of Canon Law (can. 992) and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (n. 1471): "An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven.
To gain a plenary indulgence, the following are the general conditions: - Be in the state of grace by sacramentally confessing one's sins. (However, due to the current pandemic situation, one can pray the "Act of Contrition", stating one's sorrow for sin due solely to the fact of offending our Merciful God, and motivated by faith and love of God. Then, make a confession when possible in the near future.) Please use the perfect "Act of Contrition" given below.
- Receive the Holy Eucharist. (A "Spiritual Communion Prayer" will be sufficient) - Pray the following: The Apostles' Creed, The Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary - Say 3 times: "Merciful Jesus, I trust in You." - Pray for the Pope's intentions *A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day. Indulgences can always be applied either to oneself or to the souls of the deceased, but they cannot be applied to other persons living on earth. THE APOSTLES' CREED: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day, He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. ACT OF CONTRITION: O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.

DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION Divine Mercy Sunday this year falls on April 19. The Divine Mercy devotion is based on the writings of St. Faustina Kowalski (1905-38), a Polish nun canonized by Pope St. John Paul II in 2000. Her 600-page Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul is her record of private conversations she had with Christ over the last four years of her life and details the revelations she received about God’s mercy. Faustina was born in Poland, the third of 10 children. Her family was poor materially, but rich spiritually, as they were devoted to the practice of their Catholic faith. While praying before the Blessed Sacrament at age 7, Faustina decided she wanted to be a nun. She was distracted from this desire while a teen, but had a vision of a suffering Jesus at age 19 and entered the convent soon after. In 1931, Jesus appeared to her as the Divine Mercy image, wearing white with rays emanating from His heart, one red and one pale. His hand was raised in blessing. Jesus asked her to have the image painted with the words “Jesus, I trust in You” painted below it. It was Christ’s will that people venerate the image throughout the world, so that they might know of the mercy God extends to repentant sinners. Sister Faustina undertook having the image painted with the assistance of her spiritual director, Blessed Father Michal Sopoćko (1888-1975), and Eugeniusz Kazimirowski, an artist who was Father Sopoćko’s neighbor. The image took six months to complete, with St. Faustina insisting many changes be made along the way. Tragically, she died of tuberculosis at the young age of 33, but thankfully was spared the horrors of World War II, which would break out the following year and devastate her country. The Divine Mercy devotion has a variety of components, including devotion to the image of Divine Mercy itself, Divine Mercy Sunday (the Sunday after Easter), the Divine Mercy chaplet, the Divine Mercy novena and the Hour of Great Mercy. THREE DREAMS Early in 2019, I received a series of three dreams regarding Our Lord's Divine Mercy. In each dream, the Lord told me clearly to spread His Divine Mercy throughout the world. I prayed about these dreams, and the Lord came upon me and gave me these words, “Receive My agape and unconditional love. Forgive yourself and forgive others by turning to My mercy. Let My mercy fill your heart, soul and mind. In order to give others mercy, you must receive My mercy.” We see God’s desire for mercy in the fifth beatitude in Matthew 5:7, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
The importance of mercy is seen in Luke 6:36, “Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful.” In the Old Testament we are reminded in Exodus 34:6, "The LORD, the LORD, a God gracious and
merciful, slow to anger and abounding in love and fidelity." Yours in Christ, Deacon Steve Greco
SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL Frequently asked Questions (FAQ’s)
What is the Voice of the Poor? The Voice of the Poor job description says: “In the spirit of Christian love and justice, the Voice of the Poor Committee upholds Catholic values by researching, validating, documenting, advocating and promulgating issues related to the condition of the poor and disenfranchised for the purpose of helping Vincentians to live their faith by action. This one voice is for the purpose of building up the Kingdom of God”.
Why must we get involved? As Catholics and members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we see the face of Jesus in those we visit. We have responsibility to be a voice of the poor and to speak out for those who have no voice. I was hungry and you gave me to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me to drink. I was in prison and you visited me.
We are called to move from being affected by what we see in our home visits and special works activities to being effective in our service to the poor. Vincentians help people in need. Contact: [email protected] Tel: (949) 854 1000 ext 236
On behalf of the SEAS St. Vincent De Paul Society, we wish all of our parishioners a happy, healthy and safe Easter season. We are blessed to have the daily and weekly Masses available to our parishioners. We would like to thank Fr. Paul and Fr. Brandon for their continued support during this time of uncertainty. We would also like to thank all of the volunteers that continue to help our conference provide bi -weekly groceries to those in need, especially during this crisis. Their support is greatly appreciated by those we serve. James Fuentes President Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Conference Email: [email protected]

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC
O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen. Under thy protec on we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our pe ons, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
