EASTER TIME

Now that Easter is past we enter six weeks of Easter Time, a time to reflect and celebrate the meaning and effects of what we have just celebrated. As we begin this period it is, I think, a good time to think about what brings us here. I want to thank everyone who worked on and participated in the Parish Lenten activities. We cannot truly celebrate Easter unless we prepare and the events of this Lent, from the Seder Meal to the Penance Ser-vice and all in between, were a great help for all who participated. I also want to thank all who were involved in the Holy Week and Easter Sunday Liturgies. These Litur-gies are the most important celebrations of the year and for them to be prayerful and a true celebration of faith many people and much work is needed. So, to the decorators, musicians, ministers, preparers, and participants, please know your efforts were appreciated. Things will seem more normal these next six weeks but the message of Easter will remain present, call-ing us to rejoice, to change, to celebrate that “HE IS RISEN”. May God be with you all during this Easter Time. Fr. Mike

ALMSGIVING DOES NOT END WITH EASTER!

Jesus said to him,… “Happy are those who be-lieve without seeing me!” John 20:29 To understand how faith is a blessing in one’s life, Mark Link cites, “In Man’s Search for Meaning, psychotherapist Victor Frankl notes that many war prisoners caved in under the pres-sure of Nazi death camps. But not everyone did. As a prisoner himself, he probed for the reason why some caved in and others did not. He dis-covered that those who held firm were prisoners who believed that their lives-and hence their suf-ferings- had “ultimate meaning.” Dr. Frankl concluded that faith gave prisoners a remarkable energy and power. “ However, Evelyn Underhill cautions this age, “Our generation is remarkable…for the num-ber of people who must believe in something but do not know what.” “Bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” John 20:19-31 Alice Camille explains Thomas’ doubts, “Thomas, like many of us, believed in Jesus for as long as he could see him. When Thomas lost sight of him, Jesus was no longer his Lord. So Jesus made a special trip to see Tho-mas, and to give him a hands-on experience of his reality. When Thomas makes his final pro-fession of faith, it sounds a whole lot more convincing. When we need to put our hands on Jesus, the wounds of the world are a good place to begin.” Substance must follow our belief. Do you pro-fess what you believe with your lips and fol-low with your decisions? Pray for peace, Sister Elizabeth

Dear Lord, Please bring them

all home safely. Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you. Prayers for those in Service are included in intercessions on the 3rd week of each month.

MY BROTHER’S KEEPER IF YOU NEED A RIDE BETWEEN APRIL 16 AND 30, CALL THE PARISH OFFICE AT 847-437-6208. Ask for Pat.

The Respect Life Committee invites you to join us on this nine month journey as this child grows in his/her mother’s womb. We ask you to be Spiritual Godparents and pray for him/her daily. Each week we will see the miracle of birth as this baby grows to completion because the mother said YES to LIFE.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus stands in the midst of us and says: “ Peace be with you!” During Mass we turn to each other and say “Peace be with you!” As you put your gift to St. Vincent de Paul you say “Peace be with you!” to those who are poor and hungry. St. Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term fi-nancial help for parishioners and those living within the parish bounda-ries. Please call 847-437-6208. Requests will be handled with care and confidentiality.
