4th Annual OLV Advent Tea Thank YouThank you to everyone who helped make our Ladies Advent Tea a very special evening. Thank you to all of the
wonderful ladies who attended. The Catholic Charities Immigration & Refugee Services Program will greatly benefit from all of the donated kitchen items that were collected that evening.
A special thank you to the Northville Youth Strings Symphony under the direction of Lynda Fulgenzi for the beautiful music that we were greeted with upon arrival; our guest speaker, Corrine Stavish who entertained us with her wonderful storytelling; the members of the OLV School Student Council who assisted the ladies with bringing in their tea sets; and our sincerest gratitude to the members of the Hospitality Ministry who helped with both the setup and clean up of the room. It was a beautiful evening of fellowship and reflection, and a great way to start the Advent Season.

OLVSCHOOLNEWSGreetings from Kindergarten
By Mrs. Judy Horger, Kindergarten Teacher
The students in room 103 are having an exciting and very busy kindergarten year. We
are working hard on reading and writing skills, and learning about ten frames and numbers to 31 in math. We are especially excited about our new science program this year. Our first investigation is all about trees. This fall, we spent time outside observing trees and collecting leaves around our school. We made crayon rubbings to see the texture of the tree bark, and made leaf frames to help us compare the sizes, shapes, and colors of the leaves that we collected. We recorded our drawings and observations in our science notebooks, just like real scientists do! We love doing science in kindergarten, and we love learning all about the wonderful world God gave us.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT PAGE 10 DECEMBER 10, 2017
SAY...HOW ABOUT A GIFT FOR YOURSELF? Some personal time to reflect and share a sadness, worry or concern that is bothering you can be a healing gift. OLV has trained STEPHEN MINISTERS who know and understand the gift of giving. They don’t come with a large Santa Claus bag ready to give you an instant solution. They do offer one-on-one time to care, to listen, to pray with and for you. Our success rate is very good! To learn more, please call our confidential phone line at (248) 349-0216.
In today’s Gospel, John the Baptist urges us to “Prepare the way of the Lord.” We are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to reach out to those in need.
During Advent, there are many charitable activities that involve buying gifts for those in need. The challenge of discipleship is to go deeper and consider what it must be like for those who cannot provide for their family or who
must take the risk of accepting help from anonymous strangers? Jesus’ teachings call for us to move out of our comfort zones and consider what life must be like for others.
In the spirit of this most blessed Season of Advent, we share with you the following prayer: Loving Father, help me understand that generosity begins when I am willing to ask “What must it be like for them?”
If you are interested in learning more about OLV’s SVdP Ministry, please consider joining us for light refreshments and desserts at our annual Christmas Fellowship meeting this Tuesday, December 12, at 6:30 p.m., in the St. John XXIII room.

MINUTE Hispanic Ministries
On December 9, 1531, the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared to a simple native Mexican near Mexico City. St. Juan Diego’s feast day is this Saturday, and is followed by the feast day for Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tuesday, December 12. Archbishop Allen Vigneron will celebrate Mass at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral this Monday, December 11, in honor of these important feasts to our Hispanic Catholic community. The evening will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the Rosary and dancers before Archbishop Vigneron celebrates Mass at 7:00 p.m. Flowers for Our Lady are welcomed. Gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal help fund Hispanic Ministries through the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Schools. For more information about CSA-funded programs, ministries, and services, please go to www.AOD.org.

No Room at the Inn Celebrating the True Meaning of Christmas
A special thank you to the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians who hosted “No Room at the Inn,” in the Fr. Ernie Center last weekend. Our Parishioners had the opportunity to view nativity sets from around the world. So many unique displays were setup for our viewing pleasure. What a wonderful start to our Advent season! The free will offering benefitted the Society of St. Vincent de Paul who thanks you for your generosity.
