Back in Ordinary Time (which is never “ordinary”) we read in the gospel how Jesus was nudged into his first miracle to preserve the dignity of a wedding celebration, which often went on for a week. What a boy won’t do for his mother! But of course there is more here than just keeping people half-drunk. It is about hospitality, which is most highly valued in Jesus’ time. Providing hospitality for guests and visitors was considered a reflection of one’s honor and status in the community. Weddings were very important social occasions; they were times to celebrate with the whole community. Because of the importance of marriage and family as the foundation of society, Mary asks Jesus to do something that only he can do. Today we have lost sight of that important aspect of marriage, that it serves the whole community. We tend to think of marriage as something personal. But that’s precisely why marriage receives certain privileges and protections in law. Without those rights, marriage loses its responsibility to society as a whole to build up the human family and educate the children for duties in society. There is a reciprocal relationship between individuals and the community, often expressed as follows: The community exists for the sake of the individual, and the individual exists for the sake of the community. If you push either side to the extreme you create a societal imbalance. Our second reading reminds us that we all receive different gifts from God but they are all given to be used for the benefit of all. When we allow our work, the things we do with our different gifts, to benefit others we are allowing the glory of God we receive in our gifts to be reflected into others lives. May God bless us all in our care of each other on our journey back to God!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE 19th Women’s Journey: We Journey with Christ

The season of Lent is a journey of 40 days. It has a beginning, Ash Wednesday and an ending, Easter. Jesus had His own journey of 40 days which prepared Him well for His ministry and ultimately for His Passion, Death and Resurrection. The three pillars of lent are fasting, almsgiving and prayer. We will dive into prayer to help you experience His love and follow Him more deeply. The retreat is the first weekend of Lent. You will be loaded with resources for a prayerful Lent. Come reflect, pray, support, and be supported by other women of faith, as you Journey through Lent with prayer. We welcome you to journey up the mountain to experience God’s love, healing and peace! Registration is open for the March, 2019 weekend. The Journey with Christ for women at the YMCA of the Rockies will be held on March 8-10th this year. Go to www.coloradocatholicretreats.org to register.

CONFIRMATION FOR 3RD & 4TH GRADES: Archbishop Aquila has instituted “Restored Order for Sacraments” – that is Confirmation at an earlier age, to complete the Sacraments of Initiation. Our 3rd & 4th graders will now receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year if they have completed 1 year of Basics RE. Please register your children for RE Classes soon. It is very important for them to begin learning about their faith before their Sacramental year; and to continue their formation well beyond First Eucharist or Confirmation!! Green Registration Forms are available in the Narthex; or you may go to our web-site to register and pay on-line. Please help us by registering early. More on p. 6.

A GOOD MOTTO FOR YOU: “I WILL DO GOD’S WORK”. God reminds us to do good works. What does your heart say about how you will do GOD’S work? We invite you to be part of the RE Ministry!

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS & AIDES – are so IMPORTANT; and always needed for all sessions, sometimes with short notice. Responsible teens may be an Aide as long as they are involved in some sort of Youth Program.

STEWARDSHIP: IS ABOUT USING YOUR GIFTS WELL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY OVER THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS! GOD REWARDS YOUR GENEROSITY.

TAKING A TRIP – We've been to a few places; and want to get started on our Bucket List of interesting places to travel. We’ll keep you informed of where we go, maybe you’ll want to go there too. We wanted you to be in Suspense with us; but we figured you might get anxious not knowing for sure where it is.

CATHOLIC RADIO – 1060 am – KRCN – “Change your station, change your life.” Deacon Harold Burke- Sivers, an amazing Evangelist & best-selling author, is joining the “Morning Glory” show. Check it out!

BILL’S ADVENTURES – Bill was excited about the trip to visit his family. Just like his friends, he had a funny fam-ily. His grandma wore outlandish clothes; and called him “Willito”. His aunts always pinched his cheek and embar-rassed him as they tried to hug him, and tell him to eat more; and his cousins were bashful until it was almost time to go home. Then they became good friends again. The best part was his favorite foods they would eat. They all loved to gather and EAT! What a great family – funny but great! Reminisce about the people in your family. Each is different in their own way; but they all love one another. RE CHALLENGE – When you’re with family you haven’t seen in a while take the opportunity to listen to their stories and learn about their life. It’s your history!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CALENDAR: Jan. 22/23 – CLASS Jan. 29/30 - Class

THANKS TO THE VOLUNTEER for ROSARY/COMMUNION SERVICE – We are most grate-ful to Terri Monahan-Mitchell and her daughters Shylee & Caylee, for stepping up to help with the Rosary/Communion Service at one of our Assisted Living Homes. Continued

MY CHILD TAKES KARATE, BASKETBALL, DANCE, ART AND PIANO LESSONS. WE DON’T HAVE TIME TO KEEP COMING TO RE. WHY DO WE HAVE TO KEEP COMING SINCE HE HAS ALREADY RECEIVED FIRST COMMUNION & CONFIRMA-TION? Yes, we know that your family can be busy; however, we truly hope your child will continue their religious education long after receiving the sacraments. Your/their faith is a life-long learning process! Set some faith priorities!

CARE FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL CHURCH: We’re noticing several scratches on some of the pews. We certainly hope this is NOT INTENTIONAL! Please be aware that when you wear fancy jeans with glitter on the back pockets that it scratches the wooden pews. Please save these jeans for another time!

CHURCH ATTIRE REMINDER: Did you know that you are a temple of the Holy Spirit? You’ll never regret dressing appropriately with modesty & humility. Be brave, be a leader – please always dress reverently, especially when you come to spend time with our Lord, Jesus Christ! Thank you!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF YOU ARE BEING ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL: When being admitted to the hospital you are typically asked if you would like a clergy visit. Please say “Yes”, in order for someone from the Catholic Church to be able to bring you Holy Communion, or pray with you. It does not mean that you want a priest to visit you. We have Eucharistic Ministers from St. Francis of Assisi and St. John’s who bring Communion to the hospital every day of the week. If you are admitted through the ER, you might not be not asked about a visit from your church, please let them know that YES, you would like a Communion visit.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK: Any time that your health changes, if you are going to have a scheduled surgery, or if your loved one is approaching death please call the Parish in a timely manner, and ask to be anointed. This is called the Anointing of the Sick. Please don’t wait until someone is going into surgery (unless it’s an emergency), or till death is imminent to call for a priest. The Anointing of the Sick can only be adminis-tered by a priest. Holy Communion can be brought to you by one of our trained Ministers. BRINGING COMMUNION TO THE HOMEBOUND AND NURSING HOMES: If you or a loved one are unable to come to Mass, or are in a care facility, we have wonderful ministers who would be happy to bring Holy Communion to you, whether it is for a short term, or longer term. We are here for you! Ways we have ministered: We have given hope to those going through a crisis, we have given families comfort, and brought the love and strength of Jesus to the weary; and have prayed with someone who was dying. Please call Helen Herman for a Communion Minister to visit you.
