The second avenue subway project
The Second Avenue Subway Project is a plan for a new subway system in New York. It is a project meant to reduce traffic on Lexington Avenue to make traveling easier for people in the city and in suburban areas, as well as provide a new way of commuting for many people.
The Second Avenue Subway Project will have a two-track line on Second Ave-nue stretching from 125th Street tot eh Financial District in Manhattan. The project will be built in four phases. Phase one is expected to be completed in approximately 45 months.

The subway will ease up traf-fic in the city and in suburban areas. Phase one alone of the project is expected to carry over 200,000 passen-gers during weekdays. Construction for the Second Avenue Subway Project is on track as it reached a mile-stone. A boring machine broke through an existing tunnel in the subway station at Lexing-ton Avenue and 63rd Street. This milestone completes over two miles of tunnels to extend the service of the Q train from 96th Street to 63rd Street. The next milestone in the project will be to lay tracks, and install signals and communication features.
