Diane VanDeurzen and Lisa Otey ~ 7:00 PMFriday October 23, 2015

“Music has the power to heal, inspire, and unite. “Songs of Struggle and Freedom” celebrates a century of civil rights in the US. Diane Van Deurzen & Lisa Otey will lift our spirits

as they share the stories and songs that have helped shape our nation.”Diane Van Deurzen & Lisa Otey are a dynamic duo, a perfect blend of hot jazz, sultry blues and cabaret. They

take their act to festivals, clubs and theatres around the world. Recent performances include the Thredbo Blues Festival in Australia; Yoshi’s in Oakland, California; and the Lucerne Festival, Switzerland.Lisa has been inducted into the Tucson Music Hall of Fame and the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame and appeared on the Grammy-nominated CD, “Ladies Man”, with Pinetop Perkins. Everywhere Diane performs, she receives rave reviews and standing ovations for her soulful and angelic voice. She creates an intimacy with her audience when she turns a phrase with warmth and precision. Diane and Lisa have co-produced several CDs on their label, Owl’s Nest Productions, including Diane’s CD, “I Never Knew”, “Bring Your Own Boa” for Lisa Otey and the Desert Divas, and Diane & Lisa’s duo CDs, “Wild Women” and “Meet Me Under the Mistletoe”.

Tucson residents Elena Todd, Sandy Schwoebel and Marie Sierra formed Nota Bene in 2009 and have been performing unique and varied programs of chamber music ever since. Soloists in their own right, these three friends and colleagues have collected a wide variety of

music for soprano, flute and piano in various combinations from the Baroque, Classical and French Romantic eras, which they love sharing. However, they take special pleasure in introducing often-overlooked 20th Century music at concerts, much to the audience members’ enjoyment and surprise! Known for their rapport with audiences and a wide range of musical programming, their concerts include brief chats about the music as well as the composers and their lives and times. In 2008 William Bradley Roberts wrote the song cycle Wit and Wisdom for Nota Bene, based on the writings of Dorothy Parker. The trio recorded this charming and witty group of songs on their 2011 debut CD, called simply Nota Bene. You may purchase Nota Bene at Amazon.com. Their second CD, Delizioso, will be officially released on November 23 and Nota Bene is celebrating its release by touring throughout southwest Arizona performing concerts in Tucson, Green Valley, Mesa and Phoenix. You may order Delizioso at the performance.
