New Club Uniform for the 2005/06 season

Sat 1st October 2005

A very windy day for the opening of the 2005/06 Track & Field season and on a newly marked out track. It was great seeing everyone out there competing.

We would like to welcome new athletes U/9 Jorgia Foster, U/7 Jessica Thomson and U/9 Emma Thomson. The last two are the sisters of U/10 David who unfortunately cracked his kneecap during the week and will be out for 6 weeks. New athlete U/14 Sharnee Griffiths also had a cut injury to her leg during the week which required stitches. She hopes to be back within the next week or so.

Congratulations to U/13 Daragh Moore who broke a club record in the 70m with a time of 10.89 sec, previously 11.46 sec.

Sat 8th October 2005

This week started off with the election of a new Club President in Dean Barton-Smith who took over from Jim Moore, who was standing in for us since the season's start. We like to thank Jim for his work in getting the season started!

The second day of competition and we had luck with the wet weather. Rained all night but stayed away until after lunch before starting up again.

We would like to welcome new athletes U/7 Cody Norton and from the Elliott family, U/7 Thomas, U/8 Nicholas, U/10 Claire and U/12 Deborah and hope they have an enjoyable season.

Best effort today and congratulations goes to U/14 Sharnee Grififths who broke three club records in a day! This must be a record in itself! First one was in the 70m with a time of 9.80 sec. Then Sharnee broke the 8 year old 200m record with a time of 28.97 sec, previously this was 29.20 sec on 22 Nov 1997. Last record broken was the 8 year old 80m Hurdles with a time of 14.80, previously this was 14.91 sec set on 07 Mar 1998. This was after having her stitches taken out only on Monday.

U/13 Daragh Moore had a great day in the High Jump with her highest ever height clearing 1.46m, 5cm better that her best last year.

Some good news about U/10 David Thomson too. When he saw the Specialist, it turned out it wasn't a crack on the kneecap and we should see him back on the track soon.

Sports Night - Bayswater South Primary School - Wed 1st March 2006

It was the Annual Twilight Sports night at the East Burwood athletic track with our athletes fully fit after completing a Summer Track & Field season which showed in the results with many first, second, third and fourth ribbons won! Also competing was U/7 Jack and U/8 Steffi.

4th-5th March 2006 – 2005/06 VLAA State Track & Field Championships - Bendigo

Congratulations to U/14 Sharnee Griffiths, who made it through the 80m Hurdles heats breaking her own Club Record on the way and straight into the Final where she came 8th. Sharnee also came 10th in the Discus and 15th in the Triple Jump. U/14 Josh Holdway came 13th in the Shot Put and 18th in the Javelin. These are excellent results considering that only a very small percentage make it into the State Finals and in each event, they were competing against 24 of the best athletes in the State for each event.

An overcast morning with even a better attendance for our club on this "Bring a Friend" Day. Sadly, popular Knox Centre Cross Country Team Manager George Orrock passed away during the week after a long illness with cancer and was remembered between events with not a minutes silence, but the playing of the current hit song "Forever Young" by Youth Group. Our sympathies go out to Irene, Rory and Georgia.

Started off a wet morning but it disappeared to leave some sunny spells during events. This was our best start in attendance since the mid 1990's. Great to see the resurgence in Cross Country for Bayswater Bullets! We also extend a welcome to the Waverley Centre who will be competing with Knox this Cross Country season. The results listed are the finishing order of Knox Centre athletes only.

A "Buddy System" will be tried out in Season 2006/07 for the U/7 athletes in Try-Out Day and Opening Day.

06 Dec 2005

Team Managers Report: A "Club Record" form will be created due to an incident when an U/7 girl produced a result ticket in the High Jump that seemed like a club record jump of 100cm. A little later, a U/7 boy also produced a result ticket with a club record of 100cm. It turned out that the results were actually 60cm but due to sloppy handwriting, it looked like 100cm.

General Business: Team Polo Tops (Sell $35) and Cap (Sell $10) orders were placed.

A new award starting season 2006/07 will be a "Best Club Person" for the person outside of the Committee who go out of their way to help out throughout the season.

07 Feb 2006

Presidents Report: Proposed date for the club's 40th Anniversary would be Sunday 3rd November 2008. The club's first day of competition was on Sat 2nd November 1968 straight after the Mexico Olympics.

General Business: Point Scoring Clarification: Normal Competition, Knox Multi-Event, Knox Open Twilight and Knox Championship results are recognised for Age Group Awards, Personal Best Awards, Club Records and Overall Athlete Awards as these events are open to all athletes within our club from U/7 to U/15.

Regional Championships, State Multi-Event Championships and State Track & Field Championship results are recognised for Age Group Awards, Personal Best Awards and Club Records but not for Overall Athlete Awards as these events precludes the U/7 and U/8 age groups.

U/13 Australian Championship results are only valid for Club Record as these are held about a month after our AGM/Presentation Day

Open Days at other Centre's are not recognised for any Club awards or records as these are optional and have their own awards in the form of medals and ribbons.

10 Bayswater Bullets Polo Tops and 20 Caps sold out very quickly.

06 Mar 2006

Presidents Report: Peter Lockwood (Bayswater MP) spoke about the washed out the first Knox Open Twilight he attended in the State Parliament and Bayswater Bullets got a mention along with the Knox Centre, Wantirna, Boronia Bolters and the Ringwood Centre.

Knox City Council held a reception for the Queens Baton Relay runners from Knox, which Club President Dean Barton-Smith attended. There was a story and photo about the night in the Knox Leader and Knox Journal papers.

A table was setup at the Bayswater South Primary School Twilight Sports night held at the Nunawading Track on 1st March in East Burwood. Leaflets were handed out to those interested.

Team Managers Report: This has been the best Summer Track & Field season since 1996/97 season with 17 Club Records broken and in the Knox Championship Day, 20 of our athletes

competed with 10 Gold Medals, 12 Silver Medals, 9 Bronze Medals, 12 Fourth place ribbons, 9 Fifth place ribbons and 7 Sixth place ribbons won.

General Business: Clarify PB's and Club Records in the Knox Open Twilight: If an athlete's event is not available, an athlete may compete in an age group one year higher. To be recognised as a PB or Club Record, the event must be the same distance, weight or height as in his or her own age group.

Dean Barton-Smith is one of the Queens Baton Relay runners on Day 48 - 13th March - on the Labour Day Monday holiday. Dean's relay leg number is "102" and he will receive the Baton at 3:51pm in front of the Knox City Council offices and run along Burwood Highway to pass it on at the Parkhurst Drive service entrance. We are going to setup our Club Banner in support with our Committee, parents and athletes wearing their club tops. This is quite an achievement as out of 300,000 nominations, only 3000 runners were selected.

Due to the poor attendance in Cross Country, Trophies will again be awarded to those who complete over 50% of the season. (at least 10 out of the 19 Cross Country dates). Cross Country Age Group Trophies were awarded up until the 1999 season. We will use the same system for Point Scoring that was previously used and is the same as the Knox Centre currently.
