Reliable CoveRage in Confined aReaSFibre fed repeater systems are typically used in large confined areas such as tunnels, metros and industrial complexes. The central piece of equipment in these types of systems is the Optical Master Unit (OMU) that distributes signals to one or several repeaters also referred to as remote units. Axell Wireless’ OMU has been designed with a high degree of modularity, resulting in easy commissioning and maintenance of the complete system. The modular design also means that it is easy to expand the system to encompass a larger number of remote units. All the modules can be reached from the front panel which further simplifies maintenance in the field.

As reliability is a cornerstone in the Axell Wireless design philosophy, the OMU has a number of features that lead to a more secure communication solution; these include redundant power supplies and a battery back up to ensure continuation of operation in case of power outage and a comprehensive alarm reporting system enabling remote control and monitoring via modem or wireless link.

The OMU can also be used for other technologies and frequency bands such as GSM and WCDMA, which means that Axell Wireless can provide a complete solution consisting of a multitude of distribution systems.

The repeater shown in both scenarios is the BSF424. This repeater has the market’s highest output power for TETRA systems. Compact design and low weight make it easy to install. The truly weather proof casing, low power consumption and proven reliability, ensures operation and low cost over time.

The OMU can be fed directly from a BTS as shown in the tunnel scenario, or from an off-air repeater as shown in illustration of the buildings.

auTomaTiC opTiCal gain SeTTingThe fibre optic system Axell Wireless has designed puts a clear focus on useability and ease of installation and commissioning. Through an automatic optical gain setting, the commissioning is easily performed, thus reducing the time it takes to put the equipment in service. This also means that the training is significantly simplified and the need for installation effort is decreased.

As a result, one person can easily install and commission a fibre fed repeater system without doing manual measurements of loss in the optical fibre. This is one example of how costs associated with deploying Axell Wireless’ repeaters are reduced as installation and commissioning is simplified.

inSTanT indooR CoveRageAxell Wireless offers a compact repeater solution for instant indoor TETRA coverage. The band selective unit, BSR421, offers quick and easy coverage deployment for indoor applications such as police stations, garages, power plants or confined areas. An outside donor antenna picks up the signal, whilst the indoor server antenna provides the coverage inside the building. The unit provides relatively high output power and amplifies the signals with a gain of up to 70 dB. Installation is further made easy through the use of a wall adapter.
