I n a world where truth is increasingly scarce and moral compromise in- creasingly popular, seven Dominican students made the courageous choice last weekend to become adult members of the Catholic Church when they re- ceived the Sacrament of Confirmation. Archbishop Buti Thlagale, the presider, noted in his homily that the learners would face challenges at home to love, to create justice, and to be faithful in the years ahead and encouraged learn- ers to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Bernice Ndebele, Grade 11, later re- flected: “Confirmation is a pivotal sac- rament in a person's life. Personally it has been a great journey. I not only feel spiritually liberated but I am uplifted on an even greater level. In a world where truth is increasingly scarce and moral compromise in-creasingly popular, seven Dominican

students made the courageous choice last weekend to become adult members of the Catholic Church when they re-ceived the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Archbishop Buti Thlagale, the presider, noted in his homily that the learners would face challenges at home to love, to create justice, and to be faithful in the years ahead and encouraged learn-ers to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Bernice Ndebele, Grade 11, later re-

f lected: “Confirmation is a pivotal sac-rament in a person's life. Personally it has been a great journey. I not only feel spiritually liberated but I am uplifted on an even greater level. Confirmation has been nothing but spiritually and mentally fulfilling.”

“Now the war is not over, victory isn't won, and we'll fight on to the finish, then when it's all done, we'll cry glory, oh glory." On Wednesday at assembly, John Legend's song "Glory", a ref lection on the ongoing struggle for Civil Rights in the USA was brought to life in a powerful modern dance per-formance that looked at the false masks we wear and how injustice and oppres-sion hold us back.

As the term draws to a close I encourage the learners to consider the masks that they have taken off in Term

2. What has been revealed about their values, their work ethic, and their tal-ents as they journey through this year? What holds them back from success, and do they hold others back from suc-cess through their actions and words?

We live in difficult times, and it is easy to fall beneath the weight of the chains of despair, or be shackled by the failures we experience in life. I en-courage all of you—students, parents, caregivers, educators—to cast off these chains this holiday. Rediscover joy, and find hope in small victories. Reflect on

what you can do to take one step closer to self-actualisation, so that at the end of the year, when you take off your mask, you can dance in your glory, and let the world see the beauty and truth that makes you a child of God.

The Dominican High School and Pri-mary School marimba bands both were recognised for their outstanding perfor-mances this past weekend at the Inter-national Marimba and Steel Pan Festival at St Dominic's School in Boksburg. The

Primary School band, which was newly formed last year took second place. The senior high school band, Bokgotso, took third place in a crowded field of 20 competitors from schools around Sub-Saharan Africa.
