ALUMINUM CANTILEVER GATE

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 WORK INCLUDED

A. The contractor shall provide all labor, materials, and appurtenances necessary for installation of the cantilever gate system defined herein at the Kings Mountain Gateway Trail – Trail Head.

1.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. The manufacturer shall supply a total ornamental gate system of the design and style defined herein. The system shall include all components (gate modules, gate hardware and accessories) as required.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The contractor shall provide laborers and supervisors who are thoroughly familiar with the type of construction involved and materials and techniques specified.

1.4 REFERENCES

A. ASTM B-221 – Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Extruded Bars, Rods, Wires, Shapes and Tubes.

1.5 SUBMITTAL

A. The manufacturer’s literature shall be submitted prior to installation.

1.6 PRODUCT HANDLING AND STORAGE

A. Upon receipt at the job site, all materials shall be checked to ensure that no damage occurred during shipping or handling. Materials shall be stored in such a manner to ensure proper ventilation and drainage, and to protect against damage, weather, vandalism, and theft.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. The materials used for cantilever gate framing shall be manufactured from aluminum (Designation 6063-T-6) with a yield strength of 25,000 psi, a tensile strength of 30,000 psi and a standard mill finish. The top track shall be manufactured from aluminum (Designation 6063-

T-6) with a yield strength of 25,000 psi, and a tensile strength of 30,000 psi and a standard mill finish.

B. Aluminum gate framework shall be polyester powder coated. Color shall be black.

C. Each gate section shall be supplied with truss cables for proper bracing.

D. Two upper suspension rollers and two lower guide rollers shall be included with each gate.

2.2 FABRICATION

A. Components shall be precut to specified lengths.

B. All fastener holes shall be pre drilled.

C. Completed framing components shall be tested for alignment and fit at the factory prior to shipping.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 All new gate installation shall be laid out by the contractor in accordance with the construction plans.

3.2 Set gate posts at recommended opening pertaining to gate size as specified in elevation drawings.

3.3 Install male hinges to posts and female hinges to gates at a proper height setting(s) that ensures the minimum recommended 2” ground clearance; and install gate by fitting female hinges into male counterparts.

3.4 Attach customized fittings by means of self drilling metal fasteners.

3.5 The contractor shall clean the job site of excess materials; post hole excavations shall be scattered uniformly away from gate posts.
