Designing around seamless internal and outdoor living
The design of The Solis makes the most of the prime North-West orientation of the site. This, with the building’s elevated position in Sea Point, allows each apartment to have views of either Signal Hill, Lion’s Head, Sea Point, the Cape Town Stadium and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. From a design perspective the site’s angled front boundary provided a challenge which we turned into an opportunity to create a striking angular façade. We created generous terraces along the boundary to optimise the building’s orientation. We also cut the boundary wall back, widened the street verge with planting and introduced a welcoming entrance portico. We designed every apartment to ensure maximum functionality and easy open-plan living. This includes creating a seamless transition between internal living areas and outdoor terraces. Floor-to-ceiling glass and aluminium sliding doors emphasise the sense of space and light. The neutral palette and timeless architecture combine to form a space that every owner can make their own. Air-conditioning in the living areas and main bedrooms ensures optimum comfort in every apartment throughout the year’s seasons. The penthouse apartments both have exclusive rooftop sky-decks, offering 360 degree panoramic views from the mountain to the sea. Set between the V&A Waterfront in the east and Camps Bay in the west, the Sea Point Promenade is Cape Town’s happy place!
Walkers, runners, cyclists, lovers, families and friends stroll, run, skate or ride the pathway watching (and feeling) the waves crash over the 85-year old sea wall. Exercise fanatics work out on the outdoor gym on one end and art lovers clamber over public artworks that line the route. At the other end, the world’s most beautiful swimming pool is the perfect place to cool off on blistering hot summer days.
If you’re looking to venture beyond the Promenade, you’ll find many excellent restaurants and bars that will meet every taste and budget. The spectacular views from Signal Hill are just a short drive away; the hike up Lion’s Head is perfect for adventure seekers; the renowned shimmering white beaches at Clifton and Camps Bay are just around the corner; and the acclaimed Metropolitan Golf Course is a stone’s throw away.

We asked Councillor Shayne Ramsay about the artworks that punctuate the route from Mouille Point to Bantry Bay.
There is something very cathartic about the sea – and even more so when you’re enjoying it on the Sea Point Promenade, surrounded by people from different countries and walks of life who are breathing in the fresh air, playing on the lawns or enjoying the view of the vast ocean beyond. It’s an exercise in refreshment itself.
The public artworks on the Promenade were commissioned as part of a project titled art54. The original idea was conceived in 2013 as a World Design Capital project with the intention to contribute to urban regeneration by stimulating interaction between artists, designers, city planners, business owners, residents and developers.
We encourage you to take a walk to Cape Town’s favourite place to see the artworks installed by various local artists including André Carl van der Merwe’s Rhinosaur; sculptural yet functional benches by Lionel Smit, Elana Drago-Fabian, Greg Benatar, Metropolis Design and Strijdom van der Merwe, whose bench is located in Camps Bay; Andrzej Urbanski’s colour block mural; and the controversial Sunglasses sculpture by Michael Elion. The initiative brings art out of the galleries and into public spaces for all to enjoy.
