This February 7-14, 2019, we will celebrate National Marriage Week! The theme this year is Marriage: Made for a Reason and this annual observance is a great opportunity to reflect on what the gift of marriage is to our Church and our community.

The Office of Communications has made available some digital assets for you to use in parish media and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can find this digital toolkit online at https://nolacatholic.org/national-marriage-week. Please email [email protected] or call (504) 596-3029 with any questions regarding this digital toolkit.

Please “Save the Date” for the next formation workshop for all disability advocates. The date is May 4, 2019, 9:00-12:00 at Transfiguration of the Lord Parish Gym. Our guest speaker will talk on Building Parish-Wide Support for Your Disability Ministry and Defining Disability and Identifying Appropriate Outreach Strategies.

Pastors are encouraged to identify an Advocate for Persons with Disabilities for their parish (who might or might not have a disability him/herself), if you have not already done so. The Parish Advocate Appointment Form can be found here.

Respect Life February Events

Would you like to learn more about Human Trafficking? Please consider joining us at our next quarterly Human Trafficking Basic Training on Tuesday, February 7, 2019, St. Anselm Parish's Weseman Center (Old Church), 306 St. Mary St. in Madisonville. Trainings include red flags of Human Trafficking, how to report it, and other measures you can take to fight Human Trafficking. FBI Special Agent Carollo will be presenting. Attendance is free and limited to those 18 years of age and older. For more information please contact the Respect Life Office at [email protected]. You may download a flyer here.

February 8th is International Day of Awareness and Prayer Against Human Trafficking. On this day we will again be going Silent on Social Media with the theme: “Don’t post…pray!”

For 24 hours, beginning at 12 midnight on February 8 do not use your social media, posting or viewing, until midnight on February 9. Traffickers often use social media to exploit their victims. Buyers often use social media to purchase the victims. Let’s go silent in solidarity with those who are being victimized and as a sacrifice to offer for all involved in Human Trafficking.

The feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita is February 8th. We will celebrate our first annual Mass for an End to Human Trafficking at St. Edward the Confessor, 4901 W Metairie AVE in Metairie. Confessions are at 5:00 PM, Rosary at 5:30 PM, Mass at 6:00 PM and special Human Trafficking prayer service at 6:30 PM.

Pope Francis’ February Prayer Intentions

Universal: For a generous welcome of the victims of human trafficking, of enforced prostitution, and of violence.

World Day for Consecrated Life Celebration

The Religious of the Archdiocese of New Orleans will gather to celebrate the World Day for Consecrated Life on February 9, 2019. This year the celebration will be hosted by the Sisters of Mt. Carmel at Mt. Carmel Academy Assembly Center, 7020 Louisville Street, New Orleans. All Religious of the archdiocese are invited.

We ask the parishes and schools of the archdiocese to help promote vocations to the Consecrated Life. Following are some possible suggestions:

Participate in your parish vocation committee. Highlight stories of people who live the consecrated life, especially those who serve in the local parish

or who entered from the parish. Promote awareness of the importance of discerning a possible religious vocation. Pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them.

May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God’s gift of their vocation.

Invite members of institutes of consecrated life from your parish to serve as ministers for the liturgy. Invite members of institutes of consecrated life to speak to adults/children in religious education

programs or in school religion classes.

Please contact the Department of Religious at (504) 861-6281 for more information.

Second Collection for Catholic Charities-Archdiocese of New Orleans

The second collection at all Masses February 16-17, 2019 will be taken up for Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans. Your parish’s support in this second collection provides crucial funds that enable Catholic Charities to bring hope and support to those in need in our archdiocese.

Donations through this second collection enable Catholic Charities to help over 77,226 individuals and families each year. Donations provide life-giving services such as food deliveries for the elderly, care for the physically and developmentally disabled, support and care for new and expecting mothers, and so much more!

Please encourage your parishioners to join in this mission of service to the poor and vulnerable by supporting Catholic Charities with an open and generous heart. 95 cents of every dollar received goes directly to community services. If you are in need of additional collection envelopes or materials for this weekend, please contact Emily Patnode at [email protected] or (504) 592-5681.
