Welcome to the 2nd

week of Advent. Today’s first reading from the Prophet Isaiah is special because it offers you two prophecies beginning with Isaiah saying; “a shoot shall sprout from the stump and roots of Jesse, from which a Bud shall blossom.” Jesse was the father of King David and this is the ancestral line from which Jesus shall be born. Isaiah then continues with his second prophecy saying; “a little child will guide them and the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the Spirit of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Strength (fortitude), Piety, and Fear(AWE) of the Lord.” Do you recognize these gifts? They are the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that you received at Your Baptism, and which were then strengthened with your Sacrament of Confirmation. Even before Christ came into the world, God the Father prepared these Gifts for you in order that you can make the journey of a life time. These gifts help you to SURRENDER ALL to the Lord, exchanging Your WILL for His WILL. In today’s Gospel Saint John the Baptist tells you: “REPENT, the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, prepare the way for your Lord, and make straight His path, for He will Baptize you with the Fire of the Holy Spirit.” DURING THIS ADVENT WHAT WILL YOU FIX IN YOUR LIFE TO MAKE STRAIGHT THE PATH FOR CHRIST? INVITE HIM BY SAYING “COME LORD JESUS AND CHANGE MY HEART WITH THE FIRE OF YOUR LOVE.” ARE YOU PREPARED TO MAKE THE CHRIST JOURNEY? Would you like to become Catholic or complete your Sacraments? Would you like to join the RCIA team? Please join us in the Parish House, Thursday evenings, 7:00pm or call Carol Mangani, 973-283-2218, for information.

Do you have a desire to grow closer to our Lord? Why not answer the call of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and become a Lay Carmelite. For more information call Carol Mangani 973-283-2218.

PRO-LIFE CORNER

Advent Prayer for Life - God of Life, we rejoice in the promise of your coming. You have sent your Son, born in Bethlehem. He is the Prince of Peace, and the one in whose name all oppression shall cease. May we welcome his coming each day and prepare for his coming at the end of time. May we build a culture that welcomes him by welcoming every child, born and unborn. We pray through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. ‘Priests for Life’ invites all believers to celebrate this Advent as an ‘Advent for Life’, and to pray the above Advent Prayer for Life each day.

First Reading: Isaiah 11:1-10 In this beautiful passage, a messianic prophecy, Isaiah exults in the coming of the Lord, who will bring justice and peace for all. Second Reading: Romans 15:4-9 Paul reveals to us the necessity of living in peace and harmony. His words “Accept one another, then, as Christ accepted you, for the Glory of God” are as needed today as they were in Paul’s own time. Gospel: Matthew 3:1-12 John the Baptizer prepares the way for Jesus. Clothed in a garment of camel’s hair, he baptizes the people in the Jordan River, but warns the Pharisees in ringing tones that they must give evidence that they mean to reform.
