Arrive in Chitose International Airport at 8:25 pm. After entry formalities, transfer to the hotel in Sapporo. KEIO PLAZA HOTEL SAPPORO (2 Nights)

Day 3: Tue, Feb 09 – SAPPORO. After breakfast, first stop this morning will be at the AEON Mall to purchase snow/ice cleats. View the spectacular sight of Sapporo from the top of Mount Okura via the Okurayama Observatory Chair Lift. Then visit the Hokkaido Jingu Shrine. In 1869 the Meiji Emperor decided to enshrine three Shinto Deities: Sukunahikona, Ookunitama and Ookuninushi. They became the three deities of Hokkaido. Later, the Meiji Emperor himself was later enshrined here. For lunch, pick out “LIVE” crabs* from the tanks! After lunch, take in the wonders of the SAPPORO SNOW FESTIVAL at Odori Park and in the Susukino area. The Sapporo Snow Festival was started in 1950, when high school students built a few snow statues and it has since developed into a WORLD CLASS EVENT attracting more than two million visitors. Free time to walk around at your own pace and enjoy the city. After dinner, don’t miss out on the seeing the festival at night, when some of the sculptures are illuminated with lights. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Wed, Feb 10 – SAPPORO – CHITOSE – IKEDA – OBIHIRO – TOKACHIGAWA. Depart Sapporo. Learn to make ice cream at the Chitose Hakone Farm. Enroute, stop for lunch at Ikeda Wine Castle. After lunch, stop at the Meiji Naruhodo Factory or the Yotsuba Milk Factory. Upon arrival in Tokachigawa, enjoy a Kaiseki dinner at the hotel. After dinner, explore the TOKACHIGAWA SWAN FESTIVAL. Don’t forget to warm up in the hotel onsen. The onsens – which are divided for men and women – allow you to enjoy the hot springs whether indoors or outdoors. The high-quality service and facilities are sure to become some of your fondest memories of your visit to Japan. TOKACHIGAWA ONSEN DAIICHI HOTEL (1 Night) (B, L, D)

Day 5: Thur, Feb 11 – TOKACHIGAWA – KUSHIRO – LAKE AKAN. Depart Tokachigawa and take a ride on the Winter Marsh SL Train. After lunch, view Lake Mashu, one of the country’s deepest lakes from the Lake Mashu Observatory. Transfer to the Lake Akan hotel. After enjoying a buffet dinner at the hotel this evening, walk to the nearby LAKE AKAN WINTER FESTIVAL WITH FIREWORKS. The completely frozen over lake offers you an unique event experience. Day 6: Fri, Feb 12 – LAKE AKAN – ABASHIRI. This morning experience Ice Pond Fishing for wakasagi (smelt fish). Enjoy freshly made wakasagi tempura. Optional snowmobiling and banana boat rides may be available at an additional cost. Depart Lake Akan and visit Lake Kussharo Sunayu (Swan Lake). While the surface of the lake freezes over during the winter, a hot spring gushes at lake side, creating a bath area for the swans that flock to the lake. After lunch, visit the Okhotsk Ryuhyo Museum and learn about drift ice. Enjoy a Kaiseki dinner at the hotel tonight. Relax in the onsens tonight. ABASHIRI KOSO (1 Night) (B, L, D)

Day 7: Sat, Feb 13 – ABASHIRI – KITAMI – SOUNKYO. Start the day with an ice breaker cruise aboard the “Aurora.” Enroute to Sounkyo, stop in Kitami. It was peppermint that built Kitami’s economy in the early days. During the peak production in 1938/1939, Kitami’s peppermint accounted for approximately 70% of the global market and became globally recognized as a special produce of Kitami and of Japan. Adjacent to the Kitami Mint Museum stands the Mint Distillation House where you can enjoy the aroma of freshly made mint. Depart Kitami for Sounkyo. Upon arrival in Sounkyo, visit the nearby Ginga Ryusei Waterfall. The word “Ginga” means “the Milky Way” or “Galaxy” and the word “Ryusei” means “a meteor or shooting star.” Tonight, enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot springs onsen and a sumptuous buffet dinner at your hotel. After dinner, enjoy the nearby SOUNKYO ICE WATERFALL FESTIVAL, a frozen world of ice featuring man-made ice caves, pillars, tunnels, domes and sculptures. SOUNKYO CHOYO TEI (1 Night) (B, L, D)

Day 8: Sun, Feb 14 – SOUNKYO – ASAHIKAWA – OTARU. After breakfast, it’s on to Asahikawa for one of the most popular winter festivals in Hokkaido, the ASAHIKAWA WINTER FESTIVAL. As Hokkaido’s second largest winter festival, after Sapporo’s snow festival, Asahikawa Winter Festival boasts one of the biggest snow sculptures. Each year, one massive sculpture is made as a stage for music or other performances. The giant sculpture has a different theme each year. What will the theme be this year? Will it top the giant sculpture built in 1994 which made it into the book of Guinness World Records as the largest snow construction ever built? Warm yourself with lunch (on your own) at the Asahikawa Ramen Village, where you’ll get to choose the type of ramen lunch you’ll have from one of eight ramen shops. Asahikawa is known for their shoyu based broths, while Sapporo is known for its miso based broths and Hakodate for its salt based broths. Which one will you try? After lunch, take a tour of the Otokoyama Sake Brewery, along with a tasting of sake and other tasty products. Stop at the Sunagawa Highway Oasis, a shopper’s paradise. After arriving in Otaru, take in the sights of the OTARU SNOW LIGHT PATH FESTIVAL◊ before dinner. After dinner, arrive at the hotel. GRAND PARK OTARU (1 Night) (B, D)

Day 9: Mon, Feb 15 – OTARU – CHITOSE – TOKYO – YOKOHAMA. This morning, take a stroll around the Otaru Canal. Then stop at the Otaru Music Box Museum. A visit to the Kitaichi Glass Company will delight your eyes with beautiful creations. Then we make our way to Chitose Airport for our flight to Haneda Airport. Depart via Japan Airlines flt #512 at 2:00 pm. Arrive Haneda Airport at 3:45 pm. Transfer by motor coach to your hotel in Yokohama. Enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant. YOKOHAMA BAY SHERATON HOTEL & TOWERS (3 Nights) (B, D)

Day 10: Tue, Feb 16 – YOKOHAMA. We start our day visiting, Yokohama’s Chinatown, the largest in Japan. A large number of Chinese stores and restaurants can be found in the narrow and colorful streets of Chinatown. Enjoy lunch (on your own). Next, explore Sankeien Garden – a spacious Japanese-style garden in southern Yokohama which exhibits a number of historic buildings from across Japan. We then visit nearby “Minato Mirai 21” a seaside urban area in central Yokohama whose name means “harbor of the future.” It has many large high rises, including Japan’s tallest building, The Landmark Tower. Return to the hotel. Don’t forget to explore the many shopping options around your hotel. (B)

Day 11: Wed, Feb 17 – YOKOHAMA – KAWAZU – YOKOHAMA. After breakfast walk to Yokohama Train Station where we will board an “Odoriko Limited Express Train” to Kawazu on the beautiful Izu Peninsula. As soon as you step off the train in Kawazu you are greeted by the aromas of freshly roasted corn, grilled chicken and squid from the nearby food stalls. Enjoy a day at the KAWAZU CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL. The pink of the Kawazu Sakura and the yellow of the field mustard which is lined along the Kawazu Sakura‡ lane create a vivid and fantastic contrast of colors. Return to Yokohama by train. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. (B, D)

Day 12: Thur, Feb 18 – YOKOHAMA – TOKYO – HONOLULU. Asakusa is the center of Tokyo’s shitamachi (literally “low city”), one of Tokyo’s districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives. Asakusa’s Main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries. Learn the Japanese craft of molding molten candy into a piece of art – Ame Zaiku. Will your creation be too beautiful to eat? After lunch, visit Ameyoko, a busy market street along the Yamanote Line tracks between Okachimachi and Ueno Stations. The name “Ameyoko” is a short form for “Ameya Yokocho” (candy store alley), as candies were traditionally sold there. Alternatively, “Ame” also stands for “America”, because a lot of American products used to be available there when the street was the site of a black market in the years following World War II. Today, various products such as clothes, bags, cosmetics, fresh fish, dried food and spices are sold along Ameyoko. Make a final shopping stop at Skytree Town before transferring to Haneda International Airport for the flight home. Depart Haneda via Japan Airines flt #72 at 9:55 pm and arrive at 9:50 am on the same day. Aloha and Welcome Home! (B)
