Current Status (1)
• All flight CCDs and spares received (10), all received “highest quality” grading.• Flight HMI Optics Package (HOP) is reassembled and ready for second sun test
after rework of anodized parts and final optics selections.– Replaced filter oven.– Upgraded Lyot filter and selected Michelson Interferometers.– ETU cameras are being used for initial calibrations, characterization, and testing.– Flight cameras are due in July 2006.
• Mass simulator delivered to GSFC and installed on the flight IM for SVU testing.• HMI ICD, Revision H is released. No interface or accommodation issues.• August 2006 Pre-Environmental review planning has begun.
– 18 HMI CDR RFAs closed, 1 being iterated with originator.– Test plans and initial procedures are in draft form, verification matrix established and reviewed.– Second Sun Test is currently underway.– Vacuum check/calibration of flight HMI Optics Package will start in July 2006.– Environmental testing will start in August 06.
• All flight mechanisms assembled and integrated, and all mechanism life tests completed.
Page 5SDO Independent Annual Assessment – June 28-29, 2006 SDO Project
Current Status (2)
• Electronics– Flight CEBs are scheduled for delivery in July 2006.– ETU electronics are completing final test.
• FPGA for camera interface brass board is completing test and final refinements.• End-To-End testing with Camera Interface (CIF) and DC/HRI boards is in process.
o CIF board development issues slowed progress.
– Flight boards are in production (4 boards remaining – 2 DC/HRI and 2 CIF).
• JSOC development progressing well on parallel schedule with instrument.– MOC to SOC (command, health and safety) testing is scheduled for Oct 2006.– Prototype science data capture and archiving system has completed initial development
phase.

HMI Risk Assessment
Risk ID Title Board L C I A
RMHMI019 Electronic Parts DeliveriesRMRB 4 May 2006No change in rankings. Bridgeboard oscillators are still lagging.
3 4 S M
RMHMI020 Camera Interface Board Design
RMRB 4 May 2006Decreased likelihood and consequence: SDRAM problem understood and solved. CIF board routinely transferring images from camera to camera simulator through DCHRI at full readout rate. Final board layout is underway.
3 4 S M
RMHMI025 CEB deliveriesRMRB 4 May 2006Increased likelihood based on recent 2 week slip in RAL delivery.
4 5 S M
Title Concern Mitigation(19) Electronic Parts Deliveries If the electronic parts are not delivered on time to meet
the production schedule, the instrument schedule will be impacted.
Work with vendors to improve deliveries and work with engineers to find alternative parts. Build around shortages as necessary (build partial boards).
(20) CEB Delivery Schedule If the CEB deliveries continue to slip, then the HMI instrument delivery will slip.
Increased oversight of RAL
(25) Camera Interface Board Design
If the design of the camera interface board and its associated FPGAs are not completed in a timely way, its testing and testing with the DCHRI and the rest of the system cannot proceed and the flight HEB schedule will be delayed.
Conducting a detailed review of the camera interface FPGA designs and assigning additional resources to the design update and testing of the camera interface board.
