Those riding in our Higgins Boat were Fred Axthelm, Lloyd Louks, Jim Wade, Bud Albright, Martha Albright, Bud Gregory, Martha Gregory, Jason Gregory, and Connie Hamm + her 3 Granddaughters. We have three parades left this year. The Riley day festival in Greenfield which is on the 4 th of October. Be there by 10:00am to form at the Greenfield Central High School. The Martinsville Fall Parade is on the 11 th of October. Form up at the Martinsville High School. Be there by 12:00 noon. Veterans Day Parade downtown Indianapolis. Be there by 10:30. on Pennsylvania St north of North Street. An issue about our proper uniforms has come up. It seems as though the National by-laws state that the white shirt both long and short sleeve is to be the “Pilot” shirt. It should read the Aviator Pilot shirt. I talked with the National chair of the uniform committee and he is going to submit a change at next year’s national convention and sug- gested we submit a change also which we will do. Until that is done this detachment will wear the “Aviator style Pilot shirt” He also in- formed me that at next years convention the issue of which eagle globe and anchor is worn on our cover will come up. It seems that there are some that are wearing a silver ega instead of the prescribed gold one. And there are some that is wearing hat pins on their covers which is against the by-laws. Only the “Gold Eagle globe and anchor the MODD patch and the authorized strips are to worn on the cover. Also there are some people that are wearing the dress blue trousers with the red blazer which is also against the by-laws. I was told that if members do not start wearing the proper uniforms we stand a chance of losing the right to wear the Gold Eagle Globe and Anchor and the dress blue trousers as part of our uniform. Any questions about our uniform can be directed to me. Our monthly chicken cook out is going well. We can always use some help. It is the 3 rd Saturday of each month. Editors Note: Enclosure 3– Uniform Code– MCL ByLaws White shirt , with military creases (to be Airline Pilot style with two (2) pockets, with button down flaps and shoulder epaulets). Tie with long sleeve, no tie and open collar for short sleeve. Letter to The Editor– Indy Star– Tues. 9-01-2009

Would Star reporter Jon Murray please explain to me why convicted felon, former Lawrence Township trustee was pointedly labeled an "ex-Marine" in his recent story about the mis-deeds of office that took place recently. What has this person having been a Marine got anything to do with his current criminal conduct? He sure didn't learn dis-respect for the law or abuse of public trust while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. And stealing has nothing to do with PTSD.

Donald F. Myers, USMC Ret.
