PRESIDENT’S REPORT
In our last issue of the Scuttlebutt I opened my report by mentioning the British Tune “The World Turned Upside Down and now two months later we have the very same issue. Our routines are all different, where we stay at home. No rallies for a while... SAD
I reopened our Singles Facebook page so our members could communicate with each other but really not much activity yet. We have about forty SI members signing up. Just like most of you, the motorhome is ready but no place to go. Just sitting in the back yard charging batteries…
In the last issue of our SB I posted a notice for 3 SI Members to volunteer for the NOMINATION COMMITTEE for 2020. NO replies…I reached out to two SI Members I thought might volunteer. NO response…COME ON FOLKS…
Some comments about FMCA…President Jon Walker sent out a Presidents Letter to ALL FMCA members a while back so you know the financial hit that FMCA took having to cancel the Tucson convention just two weeks before show time. BIG MONEY. He also send out a letter asking for donations from members, chapters etc. I sent Jon an e-mail about what the Singles did a few years ago to gather up some funds to offset our high Scuttlebutt costs, We set up a volunteer, Supporters Club ( where members joined by a $5.00 donation) We had less than 10% participation but it did help our treasury He did acknowledge my e-mail.
On May 27, 2020, FMCA President Jon Walker sent a two page report to the Governing Board (cc to Chapter Presidents) so I will summarize his report for you. The way our FMCA By-laws are drafted the FMCA Governing Board delegates HAVE to meet together to conduct FMCA Business. (NO ELECTRONICS) This meeting was scheduled for Aug 29 to INSTALL the newly elected officers so this is the date that the NEW FMCA Officers assume there duties. ALSO the new AVP assume there duties, so we have Paul Mitchell F165576 as our INTO AVP and he is my NEW Boss as I was reelected an INTO VP for two years The NEXT scheduled Governing Board Meeting is in the summer of 2021 at Gillette WY. The FMCA Finance Committee will be starting on June 1 2020 and they are charged to come up with a balanced budget.
Jon Walker stated, I will continue to give you updated membership and financial information as I get it…
If you need some encouragement, if you’re feeling lonely, or if you are grieving the loss of a loved one, feel free to call the Chaplains’ Connection Line (833) 458-0778 (seven days a week) and one of them who is “on call” will answer or will respond quickly to a voice mail in a timely way, Be encouraged—our chaplains are delighted to hear from you! Jon Walker, National President FMCA 574-536-4554
IF you would like to review his 2 page report please e-mail me at [email protected] and I will forward his “Report to the GB” .
Please answer the FMCA 1 question survey about FMCAssist.

A report from Bob Burnham, F220375, SI Northeast Area VP. It has been a difficult year for me since our get together at Perry last March, 2019. As those of you who were there might remember, after what I would consider a great time at the convention, I was carried out of our parking area in an ambulance in great pain on Sunday, March 17th, as we were all preparing to leave the fairgrounds. At the local Perry hospital I was examined, given two doses of morphine to ease the pain, and a CT scan. It was determined that my condition was worse than anything the hospital (19 beds) could handle, so I was transferred to the far larger Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, There I was met at the emergency door by a surgeon, who had obviously been alerted by the Perry hospital, and wheeled into his office, not an examination room. He informed me that I was suffering from a perforated stomach ulcer and would need to be operated on "right now," his words. It was 6:00 pm, I was in the operating room at 7:30. Following the operation, I was placed on a "nothing by mouth" order (NPO). Three days later I was found to be bleeding internally and was continued on the order, while attempts were made to stop the bleeding with coagulating medications. I also had several blood transfusions. On April 4th I was finally discharged and transported back to Perry for five weeks of re-hab since I was in no condition to drive and/or return to my winter campground in Florida. Now, for a word about Seven Corners Travel Insurance and the FMCAssist benefit. Before leaving the fairgrounds on March 17th, FMCAssist had been called. Although I was not aware of it during the time I was in the Warner Robbins hospital, and the Perry re-hab center, David Shelton, the Seven Corners agent in charge of my case, was in constant contact with personnel involved with my care. In fact, David was my agent. He also arranged my subsequent air transportation from Atlanta to Portland,Maine, and ground transportation to and from both terminals. He arranged for one of my daughters to be flown from Portland and travel by chauffered car to Perry to get me and travel back to Portland with me, in first class I might add. All of the transportation costs were paid by Seven Corners as well as paying for the Bounder to be driven from the Perry fairgrounds to Portland by a bonded driver. FMCAssist is indeed a valuable benefit of FMCA membership and I am grateful and thankful for it, and for David Shelton. I was flown to Portland on May 10th, near where my younger daughter lives, for nine more weeks of re-hab I was finally discharged on July 11th and reunited with the motorhome, which was then moved to my other daughter's home in Wardsboro, Vermont, for the rest of the summer. After a second bout with a hospital, completely unrelated to the Georgia hospitalization. I was again left weakened to the point that it would be impossible for me to return to my regular winter site at the campground in Florida. Since October 12th I have been living beyond my means in a posh senior living facility in Portland with the hope that I will be able to move back into the motorhome during the summer months to resume my full-timer status. I was not planning on the COVID-19 emergency to complicate things. Bob Burnham [email protected]
IMPORTANT
You probably received 2 emails from FMCA, one titled Tell us your thoughts and a second titled Oops we made a mistake. It includes the same one question survey about FMCAssist. We encourage you take this 10 second survey.

Attention SI members Scuttebutt is your newsletter. It will only be interesting if officers and members provide input. Members are always interested in learning what other members and their friends are doing. Reports and photos are needed. Please consider sending in a contribution to a future issue. Scuttlebutt is currently published every two months. I would love to have the challenge of deciding what to leave out because I have too much material. This is not the case at present.
No longer an Area National Representative, I still want to share the rewards of being one. You meet and greet many fellow SI members, become friends, spend time sharing fun times and experiences. When I was ill at the Minot Convention, members stepped in and took on duties at Bingo and Bean Board activities, and they stood by and saw that I made it safely to meetings and such. Thanks to all of you. I love and care for you.
There is not much work to being an Area Representative. Pre- or Post-Rallies are an option, and planning one is up to you. Leading volunteer activities at a Rally depends on need for same. SIs may be committed to an activity by the National President/Officers. Then the Area Representative is involved and will have duties with the support of National officers and FMCA. I will be available to provide information and help, especially in planning for the regular actions such as Chapter Fair participation. I have contact points/persons to share. It would be great if members would step in to help in the Western Area (California) and the Rocky Mountain Area. Thanks to those who are considering doing so. Sharing with fellow SIs is rewarding !!!
Hugs. joanne harnit
I found this picture of an SI member who was also a member of the Frustrated Maestros. She was very helpful to the Singles at our SEA rallies in Brooksville, FL. Does anyone remember her?
