Screencasting Defined
“Screencasts are short instructional videos that demonstrate computer-related tasks…” (Notess 2012).

Using SOM
![Page 9: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Using SOM
• Overview:– Gather your materials– Record your screencast
• Key Features• LIVE Demo
– Edit your screencast– Produce & Deliver your screencast
![Page 10: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Gather Your Materials
• Choose a Topic– What elements do we want to teach in each
session?– Audience: Who are they and how do we meet
their needs?– Why does my audience need to know this?– Start simple.
![Page 11: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Gather Your MaterialsCompare PowerPoint VS Screencapture
PowerPoint
Screencapture
![Page 12: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Gather Your Materials
• Brainstorm– Identify the objective, procedure and steps
• Create an Outline– This will act as a guide and structure for pre-
production– Identify the major points and steps to be
included in the tutorial– This outline does not need to be detailed, as
much as it needs to be comprehensive
![Page 13: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Sample Outlines
![Page 14: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Gather Your Materials
• Write the Script– Once the content outline has been reviewed
and is solid, use it to write the script for each individual screencast.
– The script should detail what will be said throughout the screencast, realizing it will be edited several times prior to producing the screen cast.
– Must be clear, concise and explicit.
![Page 15: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Gather Your MaterialsExample of a
Script
![Page 16: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Gather Your Materials
• Graphics– Identify graphics to go with your script and to
include in the screen cast.
![Page 17: Screencast-O-Matic Teaching with Technology Presentation (FAU 2014)](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022102901/555834a6d8b42ac6078b477d/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Gather Your Materials
• Create a Storyboard with the Script and Identified Graphics– PowerPoint is a great tool to use to
storyboard.– Check storyboard for accuracy of topic you
are teaching.– Take screenshots to help you visualize.– Add graphics that will help make your point.– It is imperative that your script match the
graphics being described.
