CAMP OPEMIKON SUMMER CAMP 2017 ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ADVENTURE FOR YOUR CHILD THIS SUMMER? CAMP OPEMIKON HAS A WIDE ARRAY OF OUTDOOR ADVENTURES FOR BOYS & GIRLS AGES 5 TO 16! NEW THIS SUMMER BEAVER PROGRAM & GROUP CAMPING Since 1938 Camp Opemikon has served the camping needs of more than half a million youth and adults. Program delivery and camp operations require strict adherence to standards and guidelines in areas concerning health, safety, facilities, equipment, and staff as well as programs, wilderness travel, transportation and administration. We are located on Christie Lake, 100km southwest of Ottawa. With over 200 acres of fields and woodlands nestled among three lakes, Camp Opemikon is the perfect setting away from crowded cities. The large commercial kitchen and dining hall provide campers with tasty nutritious meals in a pleasant atmosphere. Our Health Centre is operated under the supervision of qualified health care providers. *NEW* Beaver Program – Ages 5-7 – July 27-29 -- $230 + HST This is an introductory program to camping for Beavers. Must have at least one full year of Beavers to attend. Partial week camp (Thursday to Saturday) White Tail – Ages 7-8 – July 22-25 -- $330 + HST Geared towards third year Beavers. Partial week taste of the Scouting experience for First Time Campers. (Saturday to Tuesday) Gold Pack – Ages 7-8 – July 1-8, 8-15, 15-22, 22-29 -- $525 + HST Giving campers their first week long camp experience. Learn the details and routines of camp life. Campers will get to choose from an array of activities. Campers get to take a trip to the “Amazon” and overnight at one of our satellite sites. Youth get to choose to achieve a number of skills in the Camping, Trail, Aquatics and Paddling Outdoor Adventure Skills.

Brownsea – Ages 11-12 - July 1-8, July 8-15, July 15-22, July 22-29, July 29-Aug 5 & Aug 5-12 - $535 + HSTCampers are provided with the building blocks to enjoy camping through hands-on activities. Develop skills while camping, hiking and canoeing. Ropes courses, a regatta and special full-camp evening activities fill the week. Two night canoe trip on Christie Lake & Farrens Lake. Paddling, Aquatics, Trail and Camping Outdoor Adventure Skills to be achieved.

ScoutCraft – Ages 12-13 – July 1-8, July 8-15, July 15-22 & July 22-29 -- $545 + HSTThe week will include opportunities to develop light-weight camping skills, hiking with trail side cooking & pioneering. Orienteering, lashing, fire lighting and working with axes and saws are some of the highlights of the week. A two night hike at nearby Provincial Park. Campers can achieve Trail and Camping Outdoor Adventure Skills.

Survival Camp – Ages 13-15 – July 29-August 5 & August 5-12 -- $545 + HSTAre you up for the challenge? Campers will experience a more challenging wilderness program by tenting away from main camp. They will work as a team to survive the week, complete challenges to receive some amenities. Youth will develop advanced Outdoor skills in camping, paddling and pioneering. Outdoor Adventure Skills that can be achieved are Aquatics, Paddling, Trail, Camping and some Emergency Skills.

Paddling 1 – Ages 12-13 – July 1-8, July 8-15, July 15-22 & July 22-29 -- $545 + HSTLevel I program teaches operational knowledge of canoes and kayaks. Youth are introduced to water safety rules, flat-water control skills and practical day tripping techniques. Basic on-the-water and camping skills are required for this program. Two night camping trip across scenic waterways. Paddling and Camping Outdoor Adventure Skills can be achieved.

Paddling II – Ages 13-15 – July 29-August 5 & August 5-12 -- $545 + HSTWater-based program designed to develop advanced canoeing skills. Paddling 1 or the equivalent is recommended. Activities are based on the more advanced stages of the Paddling Outdoor Adventure Skill. A three night canoe trip in nearby counties.

Rocks Camp – Ages 13-15 – July 8-15, 22-29 -- $555 + HSTSpend the first part of the week climbing McManus Rock to fine tune your climbing skills before heading off-site to Kingston Mills for a multi-night climbing experience. Youth will acquire and develop many skills of the Vertical Outdoor Adventure Skill. Some experience rock climbing is preferred but not mandatory.

OSL (Outdoor Skills & Leadership) – Ages 14-15 – July 1-15, July 15-29 & July 29-Aug 12 -- $695 + HSTOSL is a challenging two-week leadership development program that concentrates on refining outdoor skills. One week is land based skills such as backpacking and light weight camping on a two night hiking trip. Week two shifts to water based skills and includes four day-three night canoe trip. The two weeks are tied together with an overnight survival camp-out. A pre-requisite for anyone wanting to register for CIT or Seneca. Paddling, Trail, Camping, Emergency Skills are some of the Outdoor Adventure Skills that campers can choose to achieve.

Seneca – Ages 14-16 – July 29-August 12 -- $1080 + HSTAre you up for the challenge of a ten day canoe trip? Want to travel like a Voyageur? Come test your paddling and portaging skills as you explore the woods and lakes of Algonquin Park. EXPERIENCED paddlers only. This trip includes 16km to 20 km of paddling and portaging each day. Not for the faint of heart! Must be in good physical shape and be ready to perfect and advance outdoor skills and enjoy being outdoors regardless of weather! More advanced Outdoor Adventure Skills in Paddling, Trail, Camping and Emergency Skills can be achieved.

CIT (Counselor in Training) – Ages 15-16 – July 1-15, July 8-22, July 15-29, July 22-Aug 5 -- $595 + HSTThis two week program provides training to youth interested in obtaining Camp Counselor positions in future years or in enhancing their leadership skills. Activities concentrate on development of team building skills, proper methods of discipline, conflict resolution and personal goal setting. Week one includes intensive leadership training, followed by week two placement in appropriate program or service area to apply their new found knowledge.

1. You may also submit registration forms together with registration fee by fax, email, Canada Post or in person to the Scouting Service Centre at the address and numbers listed below.

2. Fees are listed in the Opemikon Brochure and online. Non Scouting Members are welcome to experience residential camping at Camp Opemikon. An additional $50.00 is to be added to the camping fee to cover administration costs.

This fee must be paid if your child is not a currently registered member of Scouts Canada and we reserve the right to collect this fee upon verification through Scouts Canada’s database.

3. Transportation will be provided at no extra cost from Scouts Headquarters at 1345 Baseline in Ottawa. You must indicate during registration if transportation is required. Full details are listed in the Parent/Camper Information package.

4. Note the EARLY BIRD rate $25 savings if full payment is made by 30 April 2017

5. REFER-A-FRIEND – Refer a “new to camp” friend and once they register receive an additional $25 discount if they have registered and paid by 30 April 2017.
