After meeting through old friends, I thought Russell was really handsome and he thought I was a ‘hot chick'! I knew he was The One right away when I met him; his face just felt like home to me. IDEAL SETTING... I’ve always loved Gean House. The gardens are stunning and I envisioned an amazing drinks reception on the lawn and a balloon release to remember my mom, who passed away in 2008. TOTALLY DIY... I did all the planning myself; I knew exactly who to contact as I know all the best people! I created my own invitations and favours. I love peony roses, ranunculus and anemones so wanted them everywhere on the day. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED... I originally wanted a lace dress so I could wear my cowboy boots, but struggled to find one. My maid of honour suggested I try something completely different; duchess satin and almost Marilyn Monroe-like. It fitted like a glove and ended up being perfect for me. SUITED AND BOOTED... Russell wore a tuxedo and Ariat cowboy boots. I bought him shotgun cartridge cufflinks too, as he is a hunter. His best man purchased the same tuxedo (no boots though!). TRADITIONS FROM HOME... I loved everyone staying on the grounds the night before; it’s an American tradition to have a rehearsal dinner with family and out-of-town guests [Jennifer is American]. We had a lovely meal, I gave my bridesmaids gifts and we had drinks before going to bed early. LOVE STORY... Russell and I are Christians, but I absolutely love a humanist ceremony as it’s all about the bride and groom. We wanted to tell our story and we were all laughing and had an amazing experience. It was my favourite part of the day. INTERNATIONAL TASTES... The canapés were American mini burgers with beer in shot glasses from Yorkshire, where Russell’s from. We had a haggis starter then a US and UK fusion for the evening buffet: more mini burgers and fish and chips. I made popcorn bags and we had personalised M&Ms too. A MUST-HAVE... I’d advise other brides to hire a videographer – the day feels surreal and it’s as if you’re not present. Russell and I missed so many things and I am just so so grateful for having Martin from 1 Studio Video and his guys there to capture absolutely everything. photographer ALWAYS THE
