Happy Valentines Day! We sure have seen the need to take ad- vantage of windows of opportunity as it relates to the weather. What we have today is gone tomorrow and possibly back again. Holy roller coaster! Hopefully the best is yet to come. If you remember the last year the month of March gave us the best conditions we had all sea- son. Thanks to everyone who came out for the January events in Ellicottville. It was a great weekend! Remember to give a special shout to our volunteer members who organized our events. Paul F. for set- ting up Contractor Day at Holimont, Keith W. for the fantastic Happy Hour at Balloons and Anthony Lozzi for Saturdays Balls and Brews at Holiday Valley. Great Job Guys!! Another shout out to Steve Korn and all who went to Kissing Bridge for Super Bowl Sunday! Congratulations to those who won in the Super Bowl fundraiser, and thanks to Joe and Melissa K. for putting the whole thing together. Again we found ourselves canceling a day trip (Swain) but fear not we will do our best to come up with something later this season to fill the void. Thanks to Linda O. for a tremendous effort to try and keep the trip together despite the weather! Dont forget at the February Meeting we will be accepting nomi- nations of officers for the SCOL Board. Please think about stepping up and throwing your name in for something. We need new faces and new ideas, please give it some consideration. SCOL has more events coming up so please check the schedule in this newsletter and try and plan some time with the group. Finally, with conditions changing everyday BE CAREFUL!! Even a couple of days of consistent weather dont necessarily mean consistent snow conditions. Ski and Ride as the conditions permit. To SCOL members from SCOL Board of Directors, The Ski Club of Lockport Board of Directors has been made aware that there is some confusion amongst the members of the Club with regards to there being 2 Facebook pages. There is only one Facebook page sanctioned and controlled by the SCOL Board. The title of this page is “Official SCOL – Ski Club of Lockport”. We would like to clarify how there came to be 2 pages with similar titles. Approxi-mately 10 years ago a member of their own initiative, created a Facebook page (SCOL – Ski Club of Lockport) on SCOL’s behalf and maintained the page for a number of years. In 2016 during summer meetings the SCOL Board determined that the Club should utilize Fa-cebook not only as a means of communication with existing members but also as a market-ing tool. The Board also recognized the perils and pitfalls associated with modern day “social media” and tried to anticipate problems that could arise and a means of handling them should they arise. As you would expect each member’s personal privacy ended up being at the forefront of these discussions. A policy was drafted and approved by the board of direc-tors as follows;

SCOL Policy for Facebook

1. There will be three board members credentialed as administrators A. President B. Communications Officer C. Facebook page administrator

2. Members of the page must be accepted by an administrator 3. Members are encouraged to post pictures and items subject to the review of the administra-

tors. 4. If for any reason a member of the page wishes to have a personal post removed one of the

administrators shall comply with the request. 5. If for any reason a member requests an official club post be taken down it shall be brought to

the attention of an administrator and she/he will present it to the Board of Directors for a decision.

6. The Board of Directors shall retain the decision making authority regarding membership and content of the Ski Club of Lockport Facebook page.

The Board was aware of the Facebook page titled “SCOL – Ski Club of Lockport” and was in agreement that utilizing that page would make the most sense and best serve the club. A discussion with the administrator of the “SCOL – Ski Club of Lockport” page was held. The Board asked the administrator, in accordance with the policy above for administrative rights to be shared with the current Communication officer and President. The administrator would not provide any administrative rights to the board.

Page 12: SCOL News - skicluboflockport.comskicluboflockport.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/February-2019-Newsletter.pdf · Guess Who’s in the ag ... media” and tried to anticipate problems

The SCOL Board at this point determined that protecting the privacy rights of the Club’s members was paramount. In order for the existing board or any succeeding boards to be effective they could only operate a Club sanctioned Facebook page if the “Board” retained administrative credentials. At this point it was decided that we would create a new page (Official SCOL – Ski Club of Lockport) managed by the board. The Club and the Board will continue to recommend members to utilize the Official SCOL- Ski Club of Lockport. This page is linked to our website and promoted in marketing materi-als. This page will have invitation and event reminders that coordinators will monitor to esti-mate attendance. Any changes to events will be posted to this page first as well as email communication. We apologize for any confusion this situation may have caused. However, each member that is elected to a position within the SCOL Board of Directors has now taken on an obligation fiduciarily and ethically to protect the best interests of not only the Club but each member thereof. All the actions taken by the Board were first agreed upon by the board and each of these actions was taken to further the interests of the Ski Club of Lock-port and protect present and future members personal rights of privacy.

Regards, Ski Club of Lockport Board of Directors
