/ck/ - Phonics Revision

1. Look at the big ‘c’ and ‘k’ on the picture. Although each letter looks different, remember they make the same sound. They often go together in a word and, when this happens, the sound is still only said once. Whenever you see one or the other, or both letters together, they make the same /c k/ sound.

2. Listen to the /c k/ song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZNxhoxSAFA Can you remember how to do the action? Raise your hands and snap your fingers together, as if you are playing castanets, and say ck, ck, ck.

3. Look at the picture. What can you see that has the /c k/ sound in it? (castle, castanets, donkey, courtyard, cloud, car, café, cat, kittens, snake, caterpillar, cap, cup).

4. Listen to this story being read out. What words can you hear with the /ck/ sound?

Look at page 11 and 12 of Farmyard Adventures. Can you find some words with the /ck/ sound? (clock, Luke, cake, took, quickly).

The Khan family is on a trip to Spain. They hire a car and decide to drive out to a small village and visit the castle there. On the way, they pass a donkey carrying a big bundle of sticks. After they have seen the castle, they come back to the village for a snack. Outside the café is the same donkey they saw before, enjoying a rest and a big bucket of water. While they are eating, they spot a cat and her kittens playing outside. As the clock strikes four, some Spanish dancers come out and perform in the courtyard in front of the café. The ladies carry castanets. They clap and dance, swirling their dresses around and clicking their castanets, “ck, ck, ck, ck, ck, ck!”
