Class of 2015 STAAR® end-of-course exam passing rate hits 90 percent

Among those students who haven’t passed all required tests, English II is the most common test that students are still trying to pass.

The remaining subjects include U.S. History, English I, Algebra I, and Biology.

National Youth Science Camp Applications Open


The application process is open for graduating seniors to apply for the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC).

The National Youth Science Camp is an annual summer forum where two delegates representing each state exchange ideas with leading scientists and other professionals from academic and corporate worlds.

Delegates who are chosen to represent each state must have demonstrated • exceptional academic achievement,• leadership in school and community

activities, and• genuine interest in the sciences.

NYSC application deadline is March 1, 2015.

The National Science Foundation, under the direction of the White House, approves the Texas candidates as finalists for the national Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) award. Nominations for teachers of grades 7-12 are open at https://www.paemst.org.

Professional Development Partnerships for Advanced Math and Science Courses

The purpose is to implement programs that give high-need local education agencies (LEAs) and their campuses opportunities to increase teacher content knowledge in advanced math and science courses such that teachers are highly qualified to teach a variety of advanced courses and therefore allowing the campuses to offer more endorsement areas to students.
