• Circulatory• Digestive• Endocrine• Excretory• Immune• Muscular• Nervous• Reproductive• Respiratory• Skeletal• Integumentary

• Carries needed material to and waste away from the body

• Takes in food, breaks it down, & absorbs nutrients

• Controls many regulatory processes by means of chemicals (hormones)

• Removes body wastes

• Fights diseases

• Enables the body to move (voluntary & involuntary motion)

• Detects and interprets information from the environment outside the body and within the body

• Produces sex cells & controls male & female characteristics, reproduction

• Brings in the oxygen that is carried by the RBC &

carries the CO2 (waste gas) out of the body.

• Supports the body, protects it and works with muscles to allow movement

• Protects the body

• What is an organ?• An organ is a structure that is composed of

different kinds of tissue that performs a specific job

• What is an organ system?• How many organ systems are in the human

body?• eleven organ systems

INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM

Page 8: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION: Protects the body

PARTS: skin, nails, and hair

Page 9: Science 6 - The Human Body

Skeletal System

Page 10: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION: Supports the body, protects it and works with muscles to allow movement

PARTS: bones

Page 11: Science 6 - The Human Body

Muscular System

Page 12: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION: Enables the body to move (voluntary &

involuntary motion)

PARTS: muscles

Page 13: Science 6 - The Human Body

Digestive System

Page 14: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION: breaks down food into molecules that the

body can use to absorb into blood & carry throughout the body, also wastes are eliminated from the body

PARTS: Mouth, epiglottis, salivary gland,

esophagus, liver, gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, rectum

REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

Page 16: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION:

Produces sex cells & controls male &

female characteristics, reproduction

PARTS: female- ovaries, fallopian tube, uterus, cervix, vagina male – testes, penis, scrotum, vas deferens, prostate gland

EXCRETORY SYSTEM

Page 18: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION: Removes body wastes

PARTS: kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder,

urethra, lungs, large intestines, skin

Page 19: Science 6 - The Human Body

Respiratory System

Page 20: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION:

Brings in the oxygen that is carried by

the RBC & carries the CO2 (waste gas)

out of the body.

PARTS: nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi,

lungs, bronchi rami, bronchioles, alveoli

Circulatory System

Page 22: Science 6 - The Human Body

PARTS : heart, blood vessels (arteries,

capillaries, veins) , & blood

FUNCTION: carries needed substances to cells and

carries waste products away from cells

Page 23: Science 6 - The Human Body

ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

Page 24: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION: controls many of the body’s daily

activities as well as long-term changes such as development

GLANDS: Hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid

gland, parathyroid gland, thymus, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries/testes

NERVOUS SYSTEM

Page 28: Science 6 - The Human Body

FUNCTION: Detects and interprets information from

the environment outside the body and within the body

PARTS: brain, spinal cord, nerves/neurons
