WHAT IS A CITY(LOCAL)PARK?A local park is a small medium site located in a cityIt can be categorised as a city or town parkThis park is accessible anywhere in the cityThey dont provide a extreme-type of activitiesIt fits for a population of 12,000 to 50,000 people

CITY PARKSMERDEKA SQUARE,KUALA LUMPUR911 MEMORIAL,NEW YORK911 Memorial is a city park tribute to the victim of the attacks on Pentagon, Shanksville, Pennyslyvania and World Trade Centre site. 911 is the date of the bombings and attacks. 9 is the month of September and 11 is the day of the September month.Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) is a city park which acts as one of the historic landmarks of Malaysia.Merdeka means independence.

Dataran Merdeka, 57000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Most of the heritage buildings are close by.

Located opposite of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building

Right beside the Royal Selangor Club

Located at the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan

Visitors can access the Memorial at the intersection of:Liberty Street and Greenwich Street Liberty Street and West StreetWest Street and Fulton Street.

The best way to get to the Memorial is public transport: taxi, bus, subway or ferry

LOCATION & SITE CONTEXT

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND1971 to 1973: World Trade Centre, was the tallest building in the world.

11st September 2001: Unfortunately, it was destroyed by a group of terrorists that hijacked the several airliners and flew two of them to the twin towers.

3000 peoples are killed including over 350 rescue workers.

2003: A competition of design the memorial park was held, the one-acre footprints of the twin towers idea was required.

Michael Arad & Peter Walker were the architect & landscape architect who design the 911 Memorial Park.

The 911 Memorial Park was opened in the tenth anniversary in 11st,September , 2011.

1880s: Selangor Club Padang was founded.

1897: The most beautiful and Magnificent building, Sultan Abdul Samad was built.

31st August 1957: It is the day that the Union flag was lowered and also the first day of hosting the Malayan flag during the independence.

1990: The Selangor Club Padang was renamed Dataran Merdeka (Independece Square) after the renovation.

Dataran Merdeka also officially opened by the 3rd Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohammad.911 MEMORIAL MERDEKA SQUARE

CHARACTERISTIC

MERDEKA SQUARE,KUALA LUMPURIt is an historical landmark,where the country celebrate independence day parade ceremony annually.

It is a field located right in the middle of the city of Kuala Lumpur.

It is a lush patch of manicured turf.

The landscape of Dataran Merdeka is designed in a such a way to have a beautiful skyline view of the city.

911 MEMORIAL PARK,NEW YORK CITY911 Memorial is a constructed as an eco friendly plaza.

The designs conveys a spirit of hope and renewal.

It consists of two acre-sized waterfalls and reflecting pools.

911 Memorial also have a small clearing in grove known as Memorial Glade

ACTIVITIESMERDEKA SQUAREThis historic park hosts special events like: National Day Parade, open air concerts, carnivals, marathons and campaigns. People can come there and take pictures of the park like: 100m flag pole Image sources: Malaysia Footsteps Blog and Star Online

911 MEMORIALWalking tours to explore around the 911 Memorial Park.A museum for people to enter and learn about the site. It provide a free entry to families of those victims. Public events such as musical performances, military and official ceremonies to pay tributes to the victims.
