them get there."

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

St Paul’s is a Pre-Prep to Year 12 Anglican school with a vision to be leaders in educational thinking and practice. We equip young people for an uncertain future by providing an education worth having.

Our School’s motto is: create your own

story. This is because we give every student entrusted to our care the best chance to maximise their potential, be equipped with the skills and dispositions needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

AN ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT

Entrepreneurs don’t quit – they persevere through setbacks. At St Paul’s, failing = learning. Your child will be encouraged to develop resilience by learning not to be afraid of setbacks and not giving up at the first hurdle. Instead, they’ll learn to be agile and be able to adapt to new scenarios and devise new approaches to problems.

AN INNOVATIVE MINDSET

Innovation is a way of thinking. At St Paul’s, your child will learn to open their minds and develop an insatiable curiosity about the world around them. Your child won’t be content with the status quo. They’ll seek new ways of thinking, fresh approaches to problems, and a desire to create their own future.

A HEART FOR SERVANT LEADERSHIP

A core component of a St Paul’s education is to not just develop better outcomes, but to do so in an ethical manner. So much of the world encourages young people to take a ‘me first attitude’. We want to help your child model the teachings of Jesus by learning to put others first and discover how they can use their own gifts and abilities to help others flourish; both in Australia and across the globe.

THE ST PAUL’S EXPERIENCE

“It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.”

– Bill Gates, Founder of Microsoft and Entrepreneur

What if learning was more than just memorising facts or sitting in rows? What if learning was brought to life so that it helped children become inspired? What if this was already possible?

Our research indicates that the skills students require for the world of tomorrow are vastly different to times’ past. For the world of 2028, students will need high levels of creativity, a resilient nature, an innovative mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively.

This led St Paul’s to consider – how can we transform our learning so that our students are best prepared to design their own future? The answer: our Learning Realms.

LEARNING REALMS

St Paul’s has researched and implemented five approaches to learning that are embedded throughout our curriculum. We call these our Learning Realms.

The five Learning Realms are designed to bring learning to life, helping children not be satisfied with simply learning the ‘what’ but being encouraged to think differently and develop a mindset that is curious and isn’t afraid to ask the question ‘what if’?

For example, how can the maths curriculum also build creativity? How can science enable design thinking? How can physical education encourage entrepreneurialism? The Learning Realms will give your child an education worth having: one unlike any other School in Australia.

“I never knew School

could be like this. I’m

encouraged to think, to

dream and to be creative.

It’s opened my mind to

so many possibilities”

— Sarah MacDonald, Year 12 student

EDUCATION APPROACH

THE FUTURE

What does the world of tomorrow look like? When your child finishes School, what future awaits them? With up to 50% of today’s jobs likely to disappear in the next 20 years due to automation, robotics and artificial intelligence, the question parents must face is: how is your child being prepared for a job that doesn’t yet exist?

It’s this question that drives the educational approach at St Paul’s School. We want your child to flourish in tomorrow’s world, so it is critical they develop skills and grow the mindset necessary to do so.

We invite you to partner with us on the journey of preparing your child to positively influence the world of tomorrow.

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.”

– Peter Drucker, Management Consultant and Entrepreneur

A St Paul’s education opens up a world of opportunities. Will your child go on to become the next Steve Jobs, Elon Musk or Mother Teresa?

WHAT LEARNING LOOKS LIKE

A St Paul’s education is the opposite of the ‘one size fits all’ approach you will find elsewhere. Some of our students may go on to start their own business while still at school, while others will travel to the third world with a view of feeding the hungry and caring for the less fortunate. Whatever your child’s potential, we'll help them find find a way to maximise it at St Paul’s School.

OUR FIVE LEARNING REALMS

“St Paul's helped me discover that I never

wanted to be a part of the majority, and the subjects I took set me up to create

my own story. St Paul's supported me so I could pursue my passion and helped me develop vital

life skills”

— Jess Lowis, Class of 2015

The below 5 Learning Realms are embedded throughout our curriculum and will help your child experience learning in a unique way.

CASE STUDY: THE STITCH UP CO.

Year 11 students Harriet Nixon and Sarah McDonald are co-Managing Directors of The Stitch Up Co - a St Paul's School Entrepreneurs Club business.

The startup looks to solve a problem many of us have faced: what to do with the shirts we have collected that, despite having some significance to us, we will never wear.

The Stitch Up’s solution is to repurpose these shirts into pillows, not only giving them a new lease on life but most importantly allowing customers to keep cherishing the memories associated with the shirt.

ENTREPRENEURS CLUB

Most Schools offer two outcomes: entrance to university or into a trade. However, with up to 50% of today’s jobs likely to disappear in the next 20 years, students will increasingly need to have the capacity to create their own employment.

Clearly there is a need for a third pathway: an entrepreneurial pathway. It was this realisation that prompted the creation of Australia's first school-based entrepeneurs club.

Designed in partnership with internationally renowned start-up hub, River City Labs, a mix of students, teachers and parents all work alongside one another to develop ideas, form teams and, ultimately build a lean start-up business.

Participants have access to coaches from corporate CEOs, entrepreneurs, marketing and legal experts, as well as an array of successful business people from across Australia to help make their ideas a reality.

Some teams even have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of venture capitalists, meaning some students will be CEOs before they finish High School. What business could your child be involved in creating while at School?

“When Henry Ford made cheap, reliable cars, people said, ‘Nah, what’s wrong with a horse?’ That was a huge bet he made, and it worked.”

– Elon Musk, Founder of Paypal and Entrepreneur

“I never dreamed of having the chance to start my own business while still at School. The Entrepreneurs Club has connected me with mentors from a range of industries and showed me

the necessary steps to begin a start-up business. I can’t wait to continue to use all the valuable lessons I've learned.”

— Ben Booth, Class of 2016

VANUATU

Each year, 20 St Paul’s students visit the Lorevilko Village in Vanuatu to help out at local schools, assist with development work in the area, and encourage the locals. While the impact to the Vanuatu community is significant, for the St Paul’s students who go the trip is life-changing. It helps them look at the world differently and changes their perspective on what they consider to be valuable. Every student who travels with the School to Vanuatu is impacted for the better.

WORLD SCHOOL

St Paul’s is the only Australian school to participate in the annual World School conference. Each October, more than 80 student and teacher representatives from 21 regions from across the world gather for two weeks to grow a greater global perspective and form lasting cross-cultural friendships. Schools from different cultures are encouraged to work together to identify solutions to global challenges, such as the future of food or growing inequality, growing a global perspective.

In many Schools, academic and pastoral care are separated. Not at St Paul’s, we believe a holistic education encompasses three key values: faith, learning and community

FAITH

We believe every person is valued and a unique creation of a loving God who offers peace and forgiveness through the teaching and life of Jesus Christ.

LEARNING

Students are encouraged and supported to reach their potential in an innovative, entrepreneurial and ethical way.

COMMUNITY

Students, staff and families using their individual and collective gifts and talents to to help promote love, peace and justice for all.

AN ANGLICAN SCHOOL

Students attend chapel services weekly and are encouraged through the School's Anglican approach to the Christian gospel.

OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY

The St Paul’s community is ethnically and culturally diverse. We have students from over 50 countries, each with their own stories, traditions and customs. Our School promotes a respectful dialogue and relationship for all members of our community.

PASTORAL CARE

Every St Paul’s student is placed in a House that becomes their family at School. These Houses form the basis of the School’s pastoral care and run from Prep all the way through to Year 12. This ensures stability and community all the way through their schooling journey. All students are cared for academically, spiritually and relationally through our Houses, tutor groups, peer mentoring and the quality of their teachers.

VERTICAL TUTORING

Research* indicates one of the biggest factors which impacts a child’s learning at school is peer-to-peer mentoring. At St Paul’s, for 20 minutes each day, 18-20 students across different year groups meet along with two adult tutors – a teacher and non-teacher. This provides invaluable opportunities for younger students to learn from older ones, while also providing leadership training and mentoring opportunities to all students. – *Hattie, 2011

A HOLISTIC APPROACH

SERVANT LEADERSHIP

St Paul’s students are encouraged to consider how they can help others flourish. We call this, servant leadership.

ROUND SQUARE

St Paul’s is one of a handful of Australian schools that are members of the Round Square network – a worldwide association of schools which share a commitment, beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility through the Round Square IDEALS: Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service. Membership of Round Square offers St Paul’s students the opportunity to partner with schools from across the globe and often involves travelling to different countries.

PRE-PREP AND EARLY LEARNING

As part of the St Paul’s Early Learning Centre, your child will have the opportunity to participate in an innovative and community-oriented learning experience.

The goal of our Pre-Prep approach is to help children master the basics while also helping them develop their creative thinking skills and build resilience.

THE REGGIO EMILIA METHOD

Born out of central Italy, the Reggio Emilia approach puts the child at the centre of the learning experience. Rather than enforcing a learning environment or topic, the children themselves have creative input into what they want to learn. This helps grow their imagination while also growing a desire to learn. School becomes a place of possibilities which helps prepare them for their journey into Prep.

“I’m so thankful for the wonderful start to school my daughter received at St Paul’s in Pre-Prep. It’s really helped her start Prep

with a love for learning and a curiosity for the world around her.”

– Lisa Andrews, St Paul’s School parent “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up

with anything original.”

– Sir Ken Robinson, Education Expert

The Early Learning Centre at St Paul’s had unusual project managers: Pre-Prep students.

CASE STUDY: CHINESE DRAGON

The power of the Reggio Emilia approach was on full display recently when our Pre-Preps showed a high level of interest in the dragon featured in a story they were reading. This prompted an investigative project amongst the class into dragons, their place in myths, legends and foreign cultures, and ultimately led to an entire class project: the creation of a 20 metre Chinese dragon. Students had to learn the cultural sensitivities of the project, while also prototyping different fabrics and construction methods. All in all, the students finished their time in Pre-Prep with a far greater understanding of the world and also valuable skills in reading, writing, teamwork, cultural awareness and creativity.

THE LEARNING SPACE

We asked our youngest students to describe what their ideal learning landscape would look like and used their ideas to inspire the final outcome.

Look carefully and you can spot their original designs on the walls of the classroom.

This has helped provide our students a sense of ‘ownership’ of their learning environment, leading to a feeling of ownership about their learning itself.

The result is that Pre-Prep students at St Paul’s graduate to Prep with high levels of self-control, leadership, creativity and a strong grasp of the basics.

“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no

cure for curiosity.”

– Dorothy Parker, poet

SOLAR BUDDIES

As part of our unique Immersion Study Time program, students develop transferable skills that span multiple curriculum areas. The 'solar buddies' project sees Year 6 students assess a real world problem, design a solution, prototype , test, and eventually roll out a product. The result was an assessable piece of work that spanned science, geography, maths, chemistry, physics and religion and values education, engaging creativity and entrepreneurial thinking, and providing practical help to those in less fortunate parts of the globe.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Learning is most effective when schools and parents work hand in hand. At St Paul's, we welcome parent partnerships. We offer an online parent engagement forum as well as innovative ways of sharing student work between class and home.

MEET ANIKA

Year 7 student Anika Foster has just finished Junior School and is bright, charming and engaging. Anika was Vice Captain of Junior School at St Paul’s and has tried her hand at almost everything imaginable. Whether it was hosting overseas students as part of Round Square, representing the School in netball and basketball, playing a musical instrument, starting her own business or building sustainable lights for women in the developing world, Anika has begun creating her own story with a bang!

WHAT LEARNING LOOKS LIKE

JUNIOR SCHOOL

Junior School at St Paul’s provides the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Students develop both a strong grasp of the basics while also learning to free their minds to new possibilities and ideas.

For example, not constrained to simply learning to write, St Paul’s students grow a love for writing by engaging their creativity and imagination. Maths becomes more than simply memorising times tables – instead, your child will have the opportunity to use their maths knowledge to solve real world problems.

Students have the opportunity to learn a range of skills such as coding, business planning, design technology, but also grow dispositions such as design thinking, and inquiry learning.

A St Paul’s Junior School student finishes Year 6 with a unique perspective on the world and a determination to make a positive difference in it.

“I love learning at St Paul’s. It’s really exciting, I’m encouraged to be creative, and get so many

opportunities to try new things.”

– Logan Stansfield, Year 6 student

WHAT LEARNING LOOKS LIKE

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but

imagination.”

– Albert Einstein, Scientist

MIDDLE YEARS OF SCHOOLING

Years 7-9 at St Paul’s will provide a huge number of opportunities for your child as they discover their individual gifts and talents.

Middle Years at St Paul’s helps students understand who they are, and how they can make a difference, and begin to tap into their true potential.

By the time your child reaches Year 9 they will have had numerous leadership opportunities, the opportunity to become an entrepreneur, and have everyday access to some of the most innovative learning in the world.

“I love how we’re encouraged to think differently. We have so many opportunities to really take

control of our own learning.”

– Teague Norbet, Year 8 student

THE THIRD TEACHER

All classrooms have three teachers. The teacher, fellow students, and their actual learning environment. In fact, students’ learning environments have a huge impact on their learning. At St Paul’s, we research and identify the best learning environments for each class to help students achieve the best results. We call this approach – the Third Teacher.

CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO

Alongside the national curriculum, St Paul's students have opportunities they won't find at other Schools. From Year 7, students can participate in our Entrepreneurs Club and potentially start their own business, design their own smartphone app, and participate in development missions to less fortunate parts of the world.

MEET RHYS

Year 9 student Rhys Penny has had the opportunity to grow as a leader at St Paul’s through a variety of fields. Whether it is leading his cohort as Captain of the School’s Middle Years, leading the developing Rugby team, representing his School at State level for athletics, creating his own computer game in the classroom, or achieving superb academic results in English, Science and Maths, Rhys has led the way for his fellow students in creating his own story.

EXPANDING HORIZONS

Leadership and growth opportunities abound for our senior students through partnerships with groups such as Amnesty International, Anglicare and Interact. Students also have the chance to complete a Duke of Edinburgh award, an incredibly rare privilege for students in Australia.

MEET SARAH

Year 12 student Sarah McDonald is one of the most creative students at St Paul’s School. The winner of the inaugural Entrepreneurs Club, Sarah has also excelled in drama, debating and English. She is learning Chinese and has participated in United Nations Youth Assemblies. Sarah’s career opportunities are broad and exciting, with a multitude of paths open to her. The only limit on where Sarah might go is the breadth of her imagination.

SENIOR SCHOOL

Senior students at St Paul’s are the leaders of our community. Your child will have multiple opportunities to work in the real world and on real world problems, while also playing a crucial role in helping younger students flourish.

Many students in their final years will be working either as part of the workforce or for themselves, with a number of students even starting their own business while still at School. The full effect of an education enhanced by our Learning Realms will be plain to see, as your child shows the power of creative thinking, a global perspective, a resilient nature and a thirst for entrepreneurship.
