Summary Statement: Please provide a brief description for how the analyzed data will impact your Inquiry and Action Planning process.According to the 2016 SBAC results, Fertitta MS proficiency rates were and 59.67% in ELA and 40.88% in Math. Specifically students' overall proficiency rates in ELA were 54.84% in grade 6, 56.32% in grade 7, and 67.47% in grade 8. Students' overall proficiency rates in Math were 48.51% in grade 6, 44.47% in grade 7, and 26.61% in grade 8.

According to a review of the 2016 NAA, the data indicated that 20% of students were proficient (1 of 5 students).

HOPE 2 Intervention

Focus of Intervention:Fertitta MS continues to work on adopting strategies and approaches, aligned with the Ron Clark Academy (GA), in an effort to create a school environment that thrives on rigor and engagement, leading to a decrease the amount of discipline referrals.

Monitoring Plan:Fertitta MS will track data via our House system which focuses on 15 principles of behavior that students are expected to demonstrate (Manners Matter). Quarterly, House Team meetings provide students with data and strategies for improvement. Students can view House Team progress in real-time on TV screens in each hallway.

Evaluation Plan:Infinite Campus discipline reports and CCSD Data Lab reports will be utilized to determine progress on decreasing the number of suspensions, referrals, and explosions.

COMPONENT II: Inquiry Process & Action Plan Design- Priority Need/Goal 1

Based on the CNA, identify all that apply:☑ General Education ☑ FRL ☑ ELL ☑ IEP ☐ Other

Priority Need/Goal 1:Reduce the overall achievement gap percentage points between highest performing and ethnic/racial subgroups in reading.

Root Causes:Teachers have not been provided with continuous professional development aligned with the NVACS or choosing appropriate grade level texts within the 6-8 Lexile Band. Learning tasks and assessments lack rigor and are not consistent across departments due to lack of collaboration time. Teachers are not consistently releasing responsibility of learning to students (80/20 model) or utilizing effective engagement and accountability structures as evidenced by classroom observations.

Measurable Objective 1:Reduce the reading proficiency gap between Fertitta's highest performing ethnic-racial subgroup (Asian, 74.36%) and lowest performing ethnic-racial subgroup (Black, 37.39%) from 36.97 percentage points to 30 percentage points by 2017 as measured by state assessment (SBAC).

COMPONENT IV: REQUIRED ELEMENTS FOR TITLE I SCHOOLS:

Title I Schools operating a Schoolwide Program must complete Items 1 through 5 on this page.

1. Describe the school's strategies to attract effective, highly-qualified teachers to your school.Highly qualified teachers demonstrate interest in Fertitta Middle School because of demonstrated success and targeted focus on professional development that encompasses student engagement, rigor, and community.

 2. Describe the school's strategies to increase family engagement in accordance with Section 1118 of NCLB (see resource link), such as family literacy services and the provision to parents on how the school will share academic information in a language they understand.Fertitta Middle School will host two family academic nights during the 2016-2017 school year. Families are invited to attend these events to learn how to better serve their students with strategies that can be utilized at home. When necessary, translators are provided. Parents have access to Infinite Campus and all communication is sent home in English and Spanish.

 3. Describe the school's plans for transition and articulation between school programs (ie: assisting preschool children from early childhood programs such as Head Start, Even Start, or a state-run preschool program to elementary school, elementary school to middle school, and middle to high school, etc.).The 8th grade counselor will work with feeder high schools to ensure Fertitta Middle School students are prepared for coursework required at the high school level. Counselors will meet with students to write an academic plan to address areas of concern and work with parents to communicate information so that both parents and students are prepared for the transition to high school. A 6th grade three-day orientation program was offered to all zoned 5th graders (August 2016) to tour the campus and get acquainted with procedures to ensure a successful start to middle school.

 4. Identify the measures that include teachers in decisions regarding the use of academic assessments.Teachers collaborate weekly in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) on effective instructional strategies needed to address the deficiencies reported in assessment data (SBAC, AimsWeb, common assessments, etc.) Additionally, teachers participate in the Response to Instruction (RTI) process to support struggling students by providing appropriate classroom interventions. Teachers identify students with academic needs and collaborate to identify the appropriate interventions for students' success. This process allows all teachers to be active in the decisions regarding student placement and targeted focus. Additionally, the leadership team reviews school level data to identify solutions, supports, and initiatives that will lead to school improvement and student achievement.

 5. Provide assurance that federal, state, and local services are coordinated and integrated into the school improvement effortsRead 180/System 44 is available to students due to Title I funds. Additionally, Title I funds were used for prep buy-outs to provide Tier II instruction in math and professional development is provided to support SPP action steps and goals. Additionally, Fertitta Middle School has partnered with Station Casinos for funding of school initiatives and goals.
