School of Engineering and Technology Department of Mechanical Engineering Report on Visit to Ashok Leyland - Rajesh Motors Auto Pvt. Ltd, Jaipur We the students of Mechanical Department, 3 rd Year from Poornima University visited Rajesh Motors Auto Pvt. Ltd. a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland Services on August 5,2017. When a student comes to 3 rd year in mechanical engineering, all the industry related core subjects starts coming into court. Very few of all have the privilege to know practical aspects of such subjects. One of those subjects we have is Automobile Engineering. In this subject we are supposed to learn all the aspects of making an automobile vehicle. The syllabus ranges from Chassis, Frame and Body to transmission system and then to brakes and many others. During learning periods, visualizing such things goes tough. Students think of how the thing actually looks like from inside and out. This visit cleared most of our wishes. Though the one and a half hour journey was uneventful, the unit was worth visiting. We met with one of the most helpful team of employers and workers at Rajesh Motors. The whole service center is divided into many bays and section ranging from engine workshop to wheel alignment section. We got to know about the real life application of chassis, the purpose of engine position and all the mountings on the front and rear of the engine. They also explained about the types of joints present in the vehicle. Our faculties gave us a detailed insight on the universal joints. We could see the whole transmission system of the vehicle and saw how each part was placed and positioned. These kinds of workshops also need a set of some complex tools and service parts. This made it possible for us to see the inner parts of the engine. We actually could visualize the working of the whole engine, the positioning of piston to the shaft and cylinder. The workers showed us the components of the gear box and clutches. We also noticed the combination of leaf springs and hydraulic shock absorbers in the vehicle. We got to know about the suspension system, wheels and brakes. We also came to know about the components in tyres and wondered how such a simple object can contain various intricate parts. We got to know about the pressure air brakes, hydraulic brakes and their working. Then our faculties Mr. Ramanand Sharma and Mr. Jay Prakash gave us the insight of quality management and parts management in the service center. We came to know about different set of tools required for the daily operational requirement of the center. We wondered about the size and variety of the tools we have in here and compared it with those basic tools which we usually see. Our senior Mr. Rahul Sharma (IV Year) also told us about the importance of the Anti-lock Braking System and where those are placed. The overall visit was very interesting and mind absorbing. The real life insights will surely help us during our studies. I kind heartedly thank our department for arranging such a visit for us.
