School of Art & Design Summer School 2013
The Rock and Roll Brand: Music and the Fashion IndustryFriday 31 May to Saturday 8 June 2013
The relationship between music and the fashion industry is intrinsically intertwined. Music and the celebrity status it instigates have a major impact on fashion. Both are constantly evolving and change is integral to their popularity and survival. They are synonymous with craft, innovation and inventiveness.
This Summer School will present and analyse the major fashion movements that have emerged through the inter-relationship with music and its icons.
It will investigate how singers and songwriters have invariably set the tone for fashion trends and look at how intertwined both industries have become to the point that recording artists now use their fame in the establishment of their own fashion brands.
By the end of the course you will have developed new skills and views on fashion design, with an understanding of why some designs are more successful than others. By experiencing UK culture and fashion first-hand, you will gain knowledge that may help shape your future as a fashion designer.
