Friday 28 September 2018 Term 3 Week 10 Newsletter Cabbage Tree Island PS Jingee Wala We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, work and our school stands. We pay our respect to elders past and present and strive to inspire our future leaders. Thank You We would like to thank ALL visitors to our school this term who have assisted us with little projects, Sista Speak, Bro Speak, reading, sport and learning. Thank you, Dan, Jennifer, Blake and Megz from One Vision for coming to our school this term to teach valuable audio, video and lyric writing skills to our Year 3-5 class. We will be show casing our student’s amazing, original finished product to our community and broader community next term. Also thank you to our Ballina High school students who have been mentoring our K-5 students in cultural activities this term. Naplan Students in Years 3 & 5 who sat the 2018 National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy tests earlier this year have had their results sent home last week. The results are an indication of student achievement, compared against school and national averages, taken at a point in time. They are an indicator of performance, but should be judged against additional school based data and semester reports. Please feel free to call in to discuss your child’s results with me. Next Term Next term we will be having a focus on home reading and buddy reading. All students are successfully moving forward in their reading levels and we would like to continue exposing our students to rich texts and readers to further develop their reading skills, strategies and their depth of understanding. We would love your support in this area and welcome you to come and be involved as a role model for reading! Please let us know when you are available. Gungalair Transition-‘On Country’ Year 5 students had an amazing day ‘On Country’ with family members at Nunya Jagoon Aboriginal Protected Area and Boundary Creek yesterday. It was fantastic to celebrate student behaviour this week with a trip to Ballina fair Cinema. Well done, everyone! Have an awesome, well deserved holiday break everyone!
