SCHOOL NEWS ST NICHOLAS CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL 29TH JUNE 2018 ISSUE 33 I T IS ASTONISHING HOW G OD WORKS WITH PEOPLE . THE GOSPELS are full of people who do it; and no two are the same – especially Saints Peter and Paul. Every person, made by God - therefore unique. We become what God imagines for us; and we all do it in our individual ways; a challenge across the campfire or a heavenly light when we least expect it. As unlikely a pairing as you might imagine yet both known for their light - a light that shines in different ways. BOTH materials have to be sought. They hide in the ground, part of the great creation and need to be mined for; people living and dying underground to bring treasure to the surface. Both are precious; coal for its heat and energy giving light, diamond for its unmatched brilliance. A unique light is within each of us; as it was within Peter and Paul. They may be giants of the church - go to St Peters in Rome to see them standing 40 or 50 feet tall - but they started off just like us; with all the faults and failings that humanity has to offer and then they were sorted and tempered to find their light. They were never perfect - which gives us all hope. In fact it was their failings that saved them. Their needs led them to Jesus and through his companionship they found their way, their hilltop and their light. The Feast of St Peter & St Paul Mairie Gelling, School Chaplain

29TH JUNE 2018 ISSUE 33

IT IS ASTONISHING HOW GOD WORKS WITH PEOPLE.

THE GOSPELS are full of people who do it; and no two are the same

– especially Saints Peter and Paul. Every person, made by God -

therefore unique. We become what God imagines for us; and we all

do it in our individual ways; a challenge across the campfire or a

heavenly light when we least expect it.

YOU may know that, scientifically, elementally, that coal and

diamonds are the same - made from carbon. As unlikely a pairing as

you might imagine yet both known for their light - a light that shines

in different ways.

BOTH materials have to be sought. They hide in the ground,

part of the great creation and need to be mined for; people living

and dying underground to bring treasure to the surface. Both are

precious; coal for its heat and energy giving light, diamond for its

unmatched brilliance.

A unique light is within each of us; as it was within Peter and

Paul. They may be giants of the church - go to St Peters in Rome to

see them standing 40 or 50 feet tall - but they started off just like

us; with all the faults and failings that humanity has to offer and

then they were sorted and tempered to find their light. They were

never perfect - which gives us all hope. In fact it was their failings

that saved them. Their needs led them to Jesus and through his

companionship they found their way, their hilltop and their light.

TUESDAY 19TH JUNE

“After spending some time halter training our pedigree Red Poll cattle, we had an early start on

Tuesday morning to go to the Royal Cheshire County Show.

The hard work paid off as we won Breed Champion and Cheshire Show Junior Reserve Champion, with my fa-vourite, Kimberley.

It was good to see all the breeds of cattle, especially the Rare Breeds where we got a first prize.”

A big congratulations to Livvy Black, George Dutton, Alice Roberts, Tom Dean and substitute Christopher Mullen for winning the final of the Cheshire Book Quiz. The team competed against 23 other schools across Cheshire to reach the final at the King's school in Chester. They faced fierce competition from The Queen's School, Helsby High School and Hartford Church of England but won with an impressive 16 point lead. The pupils were presented with a trophy and book vouchers by author Mike Revell.
