SCHOOL PROFILE

Winget Park Elementary School opened in 2006. We are located in the Southwestern most corner of Mecklenburg County, our

school continues to expand in its seventh year. Built for 800 students, we educate 950 talented children each day. We have many

students from various grade levels learning in mobile classrooms. Our students are 42.8% White, 33.9% African-American, 18.5%

Hispanic, 4.0% multiracial and 5.2% Asian. Students are rewarded with Wolf of the Day and Wolfpack of the Week recognitions.

Based on the results of the 2011 – 2012 End of Grade Tests, WPES was recognized as a School of High Growth and a School of

Distinction. Our students participate in numerous co-curricular activities that are engaging and often community service oriented.

Winget Park has over 100 faculty and staff members. We have 68 certified teachers. Of those 68 teachers, 42 of them have 5

or more years of teaching experience. Our Before and After School Enrichment Programs are operated by a director and seven

staff members. Eight of our teachers are National Board Certified and thirty five have earned their master’s degrees. Winget

Park has created a Character Education program that promotes monthly character traits. Extremely strong parental involvement

is one of the cornerstones of our success. Numerous opportunities abound for volunteering. Parents serve our school by

volunteering in classrooms, the Media Center, the Health Room and other areas of need. Our parents logged more than 4,800

volunteer hours last school year. Our PTO provides funding for classroom materials, technology, teacher supplies, scholarships for

student field trips, uniforms and supplies for student activities. Our PTO has also established partnerships with various business

that include but are not limited to Bi-Lo, Chik-Fil-A, McDonald’s, Jim and Nick’s, Target, Salsaritas, Harris Teeter, and Wells

Fargo. They provide gifts for school-sponsored events and family spirit nights where Winget Park earns a percentage of total

sales.

Our school’s success depends on the strong relationships we have with our students, faculty and staff, parents and our community.

That is why we chose our theme for the 2012 – 2013 school year as “One Team with Big Dreams!” We look forward to another

successful and rewarding year!
